How do I use mods?

Hello, I just bought Skyrim and I want to get some mods for it. (I have never used a mod before) I went to www.Skyrimnexus.com and downloaded some mods, and when they finished downloading, I logged back into Skyrim, nothing had changed. What am I missing? Thanks!

If you simply downloaded them and left them alone, there is no hope...

Try looking for a mods folder in the Skyrim directory, though I don't know I haven't modded it (just my best guess).

Assuming you downloaded and purchased Skyrim through Steam.

Otherwise you should extract the mod from the downloaded folder and read the read me file attached to it. Most mods will have a read me file indicating where and how to install the mod.

I see Curse Client has added Skyrim to their available games to mod. I've not tried it for Skyrim but it could be as easy as installing the client and clicking the mod you want to install and the client does the rest for you. Someone else who's used it might be able to answer how it works better then me.

Go here, they will have Tuts and forum help and advice and more. Though i suspect it will be like the fallout games which did tend to be a pain in the dick at times but its fairly simple.

the easiest way to do it is to register to the nexus network and use the nexus mod manager, then install the mods from skyrimnexus using the "install via manager" button

once it downloads in the download manager, click it and use the buttons on the left to install, it does the "hard parts" for you, and allows you to see when the mods get updated

annoyingly, updating = downloading the entire updated mod, installing it, and when prompted "replacing" the old version, you then need to select the old version and delete it (it disables it when you tell it to) via the manager

it's not the cleanest way they coulda done it, but it works
