Do you upgrade the same gear or get new ones?

I've just gone for orange gear and upgraded the mods in it. Works really well and is a brilliant move by Bioware. My character always looks awesome and always seems like the Jedi hero that NPCs make him out to be.

I love the system of removable mods but Bioware decided to not let you rip out all of the epic PVP mods which sucks since I wanted to keep a set of RD-15B (I think that was it?) Commando gear. (Trying to maintain a clone trooper look).
