    Computer build help

    First time building a computer.

I had an old gateway computer, mother board fried and I ended up buying a new mobo and tower.

Here's my problem, my old CPU fan doesn't fit. It's the screw in type, I need the push to click type. I can't seem to find one anywhere to fit this model motherboard.

If someone could link me one that would be great!

I need a new power supply because my cables do not reach, seeing how I have a full tower now. Can anyone recommend a good power supply that will be good for a full tower, power supply mounted on the base of the tower.

One last thing, I'm having a problem hooking up the "CPU power" "led" "reset" part.

If I put those wires in the wrong spots will that ruin the motherboard?

Any suggestions? Would be greatly appreciated.

CPU Cooler: You're old fan should work if you remove its back plate from the old motherboard. You could pick up a coolermaster hyper212+ if that isn't an option, but there is the question of there being enough clearance. Should cost you about $20-25 USD.

You may have to get something with a lower profile like these:

PSU: Not sure what video card and other components you are running, but if its the stock PSU that you are replacing, This one might be a decent choice:

Wiring: For connecting those wires properly, you'll want to refer to your manual's F_Panel Header schematic on Page 30. Typically those wires are usually a colored wire paired with a white wire. The colored wire is the +. If you connect those wrong, it's unlikely that you will fry the motherboard. The lights might behave oddly, like the HDD light being on full time, but it shouldn't damage the board. The CPU Power and Reset wires are just switches that close a circuit, so it doesn't matter with those. Nevertheless, use the schematic to see which pin is the + and which is the -, they may even be labeled on the motherboard as well. Actually, looking at the image on newegg, they are color coded for how you should connect them with black + symbol showing where the colored wire should go.

    Thanks, I'll try all that.

The backboard of the old motherboard does in fact come off? It looks pretty well attached, is there a trick to it? The old mobo isn't a atx. It's a micro.

The wires that comes with my tower (phantom nzxt) are not labeled, they are all black and have black arrows on them. It's not labeled at all like I've seen on YouTube vids and such. It's a pain in my ass.

In regards to the video card, I am running with a GTS 450.

The old back plate is likely adhered to the old board with double sided adhesive and can be a pain to take off. I missed the part about your having a new tower in your original post. The 212+ will fit in your Phantom just fine, and it's the best bang for your buck as far as coolers go. Newegg has them for $19.99 until Jan 4th with promo code EMCJHHA55.

The arrows on those wires indicate the + wire. You'll often see them remove the rainbow of wires like that in higher end cases for aesthetic reasons, but the indicators are still there.
