    Piracy allowed in extreme conditions?

So a long long time ago i bought Battle for middle-earth 2 i played it,loved it and eventually quit(The normal lifecycle of a game) and put the game on my shelf for dustcollecting!
Couple days back i was browsing the EA games store/Origin and found Battle for middle-earth 2:Rise of the witchking *omg nerdgasm* and decided to buy it to upgrade my old copy of the game!I installed BFME2 and then i tried to add it to my Origin-account,it stated that my Cd-key was no longer valid.
I was fairly annoyed at this point since i already bought the expansion pack and downloaded it(Unable to get refunds for downloaded material).
After acouple hours of bitching and moaning i ventured into the Originstore again...to pick up a new copy of BFME2,But it was nowhere to be found,I googled abit and found out that EA has lost their rights to produce and sell anything from the LOTR franchise (Figures since they still sell the EXpack)-.-

So my only options now is to either call EA and spend several hours on international telephone and all it's extra fees or download the pirated version/keygen of BFME2!Is this an acceptable excuse for piracy or not?

Just to add:Im not supporting/advertising or encouraging piracy so no banhammer this way please :P

Its a very grey area this. You own a legit copy of the game, and its expansion. This makes you a special case. Sort of. Since you own it, you are allowed to back it up, infact most professionals would recommend making a backup. The iffy bit is how you aquire your backup, but again, the loophole would be that you own a legit copy. (it will always come down to this.) This is one of the main reasons why recipes are totally wonderful to have saved. As you can always turn to that, if you'd have to prove your point.

So, You'd not be a pirate, as much as a user of questionable methods. Pirates aquire the game without paying, thus breaking the law. What you do could be seen as Installing wow from the digital download, cause you cant find your CD's/Dvds. Since you've actually paid for the game, and its expansion.

It could also be that since BFME2 was not in the origin library when you tried to buy it, it will not accept a key, since they no longer sell it.

No banhammer coming, don't worry. I'd suggest contacting them about it. As for the piracy thing, I'm closing this because discussions involving piracy almost always end with people intentionally or unintentionally promoting it, which is against forum rules.
