Hard to choose just 5 albums, but here we go...

    1) Queen - A Night At The Opera
    2) Mushroomhead - XIII
    3) In Flames - Come Clarity
    4) The Distillers - Sing Sing Death House
    5) Alter Bridge - Blackbird / One Day Remains

    6) Backyard Babies - Making Enemies Is Good
    7) Buckcherry - 15
    8) The Dresden Dolls - The Dresden Dolls

Whilst not 'metal' in the truest sense of the word, it's still more metal than Justin Bieber.

True, everyone has their own taste, but I have the same feelings towards St. Anger as charbrec..
One of the worst albums I've ever heard in my life. Totally corny and uncreative lyrics, tightest snare drum ever, shi**y riffs and NO SOLOS.
Don't forget this was a Metallica album!! If it would've been some nu-metal band, I wouldn't have cared less, but being Metallica...
And I actually really love what they released after ..And Justice for All... true, it's not thrashy Metallica once Bob Rock took them in another direction, but I like the country-influenced rock that stayed, and riffs + lyrics still stayed interesting!
Death Magnetic helped me forgive them, but St. Anger has been one of the biggest letdowns of all my life coming from any band!

But yeah, to each his own

^Each to his own yeah, being a diehard Metallica fan throughout my childhood I've grown to like St.Anger to a degree that it is now their best album. Simple and heavy. (Yes, I'm a guitarist but some songs just don' need solos).

I have many more than 5, and my tastes in metal expand from everything from neo-classical, doom, to melodeath. These are the first 5 that came to mind.

Avrigus - The Secret Kingdom (very slow and gothic, female vocals)
Estatic Fear - A Sombre Dance (Very classical. Very dark. Absolutely remarkable use of raw, unprocessed female vocals)
At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul (Pure melodeath and probably one of the single greatest metal albums of all time)
Naglfar - Vittra (Simply amazing album. Enough said. Back when Jens Ryden was their vocalist. Their new guy is okay, but he's no Jens)
Cradle of Filth - Principle of Evil Made Flesh (mostly nostalgic. CoF have long since fallen from my interests. But the albums from Principle to Cruelty are all very good albums for me)

Oh, I'm also tossing an honorable mention to Summoning - Stronghold.

"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age"

    In no particular order:

Of course this is all opinion and has more to do with my personal taste in music than anything else.
