I knew The Shatterer came before Deathwing, but...

I didn't know Wow also lifted Cata from Guild Wars.

The page was last modified during June of last year. I think we can be certain that Blizzard knew the name of their most recent expansion at that time.

It's not like Anet invented the word Cataclysm.....or Blizzard for that matter.

He was referencing the title of the Article and the name of the event. Which was called the Cataclysm, and its effects were almost identical to that which happened in wow when deathwing arose from Deepholm, the only difference is that everything the Cataclysm killed turned into Undead minions.

Think of it as Deathwing with the power of the Lich King, everything he sears in flame becomes an undead minion to wander the world for all eternity

A Cataclysm is a well known name for world rending events in many IPs and mythology far proceeding both Warcraft and GW. get your facts straight son, most ideas for games aren't original.

Umm.. this is kind of like saying X fantasy game copied swords from Y fantasy game
GW's Cataclysm is some dude reading a scroll
WOW's Cataclysm is a dragon burninating the county side

don't see how their similar other then the name...

Don't remember specific names, but there was a generic "old god" behind the Orr Cataclysm. Isn't DW driven insane by an "old god" as well? I'll check out Dragonsoul eventually, I suppose.

He wasn't really generic, but he was a big deal especially in the night fall campaign...

Azeroth (the Warcraft world) had it's first Cataclysm before Guildwars.

If you wanna be all conspiratory (people love that on these forums) you could say that Guildwars lifted it's Cataclysm from Warcraft.

Also, from the very same article linked:

The concept of a sundering, or a world being reshaped, is a common theme found in fantasy.
It happens people. Quite a lot.

Cataclysm is a word describing widespread destruction.
I'm pretty condifent that Guild Wards did not come up with it.

I think the most famous Cataclysm was in the Dragonlance series. Too bad there has not been a Dragonlance game in 20 years or so.

    >.< Ixuzcc,
Azeroth time can not be converted into Tyria Time line..simple as hell.
    reason?
it's two diffrent games(yes..both is an MMO) but diffrent settings.

Guild wars is about well..a bit more realistic setting than Wow is(wow is very VERY fantasy based)
Guild wars, major race is...guess what Humans
Wows Major race is guess whaaat..Orcs AND humans.
Guild wars do not have 'dragons'(!Guild wars 1!)

and again, do not attempt to convert two diffrent timelines.
    http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Tyria_%28world%29
The timeline places its age at a minimum of 11,000 years old
    http://www.wowpedia.org/Azeroth_%28world%29
We have no clue, how old Azeroth is 100k+ is likely but we have no valid source.

I wasn't talking about timelines. The first Azeroth Cataclysm (also known as the Great Sundering) has been part of established lore since pretty much the start of the Warcraft universe - I mean, the world looks like it does BECAUSE of it. And the Warcraft universe is older than the Guild Wars universe. About 11 years older.

Therefore, the first Azeroth Cataclysm technically "came first".

And I don't even KNOW why you decided to point out differences between the games.

    Wut

Not to mention various parts of elder dragons sticking from the landscape and I won't even mention Factions >_>
