I wanted to post my question before the rest of the post in case some of you aren't in the mood for some reading. I got one Ocz Octane SSD and some spare cash. Is there any noticeable upgrade in purchasing another one and putting them in raid0 or raid1? I've also thought of buying a smaller one to use for OS and caching while the 128gb one would be for games.
A while back I posted a thread about some questions and sample builds I was going for. Unfortunately I got distracted and put the upgrading on hold. As I didn't even come around to thank people back then, I'd like to thank everyone for the advices I received.
As it seemed it'd take me forever to come to conclusion about the setup I wanted I set myself a deadline to order the damn thing within this week. So I have now ordered a following setup. Feel free to bash it if you consider some of my choices inadequate but for me the setup is final as I couldn't change it even if I wanted to.
MoBo: Asus P8Z68-V/Gen3
Cooler: Thermalright Silver Arrow
Ram: 2x4gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz (low profile)
GPU: Club 3d Radeon 7970
PSU: Seasonic X-660, 660W
SSD: OCZ Octane sata3 128gb
Case: Fractal Design Define R3
I also added 2x140mm and 1x120mm case fans to improve the airflow. I will salvage my sata2 hdds from my old build which was one of the reasons I went with z68-v instead of pro. I know it somewhat conflicts with my original question noq but back then I didn't feel the need for more than 2 sata3 connectors. I'm already kinda regretting of not going with pro but maybe that's just me. I also bought the assembling. The store I used charged 30 euros for it and offered a one year warranty so considered it well worth it. I've also heard that Silver Arrow is pain in the ass to assemble!
I was on the edge with preference radeon 7970. The reviews weren't that bad though so decided to go with it because of the personal deadline and the fact that I got a pretty good deal on it. I calculated the setup at the store before the store had priced the gpu and the estimated value they used was about 50 euros lower than their retail price. I basically got it cheaper than gtx580.
Otherwise I tried to stay within reason and not going too overkill. As I couldn't make a decision about what parts to go with my budget increased at the same time so at some point I ended up considering 2700k, 16gb of memory and such that I really didn't need. Not saying that the final build wouldn't be more than enough for my needs but atleast it's not totally over the top.
Thanks for reading my wall of text. I guess I didn't need to write all that but I'm just anxious since I don't receive the rig until next week.
