    Good Stealth/Thief/Assassin Game?

Hello everyone. I have been playing Skyrim for the past couple of weeks, and just beat all of the 'sneaky' questlines in the game (Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherehood, ect.) and I am hooked. Can anyone recommend me a good stealth based game to play?
    I was hoping for:
    - Fantasy theme (Wizards and dragons) preferred, but not necessary
    - Must have good story length and/or replay value
    - I prefer RPGs that actually give you choices, but gameplay ultimately takes the front seat.
    - Good graphics is nice, but not necessary.
    - A modding community is nice, but not necessary.
    - I don't want to be a one man army killing machine who can take 10+ people in a fight. That kind of ruins the point of stealth.
    - Please do not recommend Assassin's Creed, I don't want to start a flame war by saying this, but I find those games to be incredibly boring.

    Thanks!

I feel ya, sadly games just do not have the stealth system like that. It's generally more like "steath hit one guy 100% CRITICAL HIT!! BOOYAH" *Aggro everyone in the cave*. Instead of being able to sneak kill all of them. We're both looking for the same thing and I'm failing to find it. Closest I can get to it is Assassin's Creed, the Hitman series, and Oblivion(another Elder Scrolls)

Deus Ex:HR strangely reminds me of the old Thief games. There is probably a good reason for that, with Eidos (who absorbed the original Thief team) being who made it.

Hitman Blood Money was probably the funnest stealth game I've played. You can, of course, choose to not do it stealth, but I did everything stealth. I hope they come out with a new one soon.

If you're not afraid of playing older games, there is no better thief game than... well, Thief (with the second part also being very good and third being less good, but still nice). Has pretty much all you listed.

The Thief series or you can always become a stealthy class in one of the Elder Scrolls games, those are actually probably the games I have the most fun being a rogue like character in.

As said above, Deus Ex:HR was one of the best stealth games imo, I stealthed trough my first gameplay and got The Pacifist achievement and Foxiest of The Hounds, I had so much fun.

Play Fallout : New Vegas or 3 and set your sneak to highest and guns to highest. You will 1 shot everything from afar. Also depends on the gun.

If you are that much into the genre, do check out the old Hitman series.

Story-wise, I would recommend that you start with the first one, but to be honest...
The graphics are terrible and both gameplay and story make me cry.

Perhaps the latest Hitman has some good qualities, but I have yet to play it

If you liked the thief system in Skyrim as mentioned, try Oblivion. Graphics are'nt as good as Skyrim but you said it was'nt that important anyhow and I do think you can find mods to improve them. The modding community of Elder Scrolls in general is amazing so might be worth a try =)

Though it has not been released yet, I'd heartily recommend giving Guild Wars 2 a go. It is lengthy, gives you many choices in your story, has an open world style rather than a set progression path and you can play a thief which can steal weapons, pop in and out of stealth whenever he wants and general badass-ness.
Apart from that, I'd go with Deus Ex: HR, Oblivion and morrowind. If you don't mind the graphics, the first Deus Ex game is also pretty awesome, but it is very old so it depends on how you feel about that.

Ugh. People are asking about stealth games and no one even mentions Thief: The Dark Project. Well, there was one person that mentioned it, so kudos to him.

But no seriously, get Thief. Thief 2 is decent as well, but avoid anything beyond that. Thief is still the best stealth game ever made, puts anything made since then to shame.

Thief: The Dark Project, Thief 2: The Metal Age, Thief: Deadly Shadows and I believe Thief 4 is coming out sometime soon. Not sure how soon though.
