Ok to better clarify an offensive battle mage not say an illusionist but one that say uses classic mage offensive spells and melee. mesmers were my hope but they seem to be illusion specialists. My main in WoW is an ENH for a reason.

In WoW terms ENH is a pretty classic variant DK is another one. Think paladin meets mage. If you've ever played fable without using guns that's the geenral idea. You can go melee while using spells to augment your attacks or just hit em ranged and then charge em. So a warrior mage as a paladin is a warrior priest and a DK would be a warrior necromancer i guess.

Someone who uses magic in melee. Gotcha. Shadow Knights, Riftblades, Shaman, Beast Lord, etc.

Not sure if any class fits that in GW2. Mesmer would be closest, I reckon.

Agreed but not quite the match for my style of battle mage.

But yeah things like this all come down to taste and opinion. GW2 lacks my favorite playstyle/feel so not for me but for alot of people it is most likely just what they want.

My vote for battle mage would be either Guardian, since they are mostly melee with lots of magic, or elementalist with daggers. Daggers give them short range spells that they practically have to be in melee range for.

    http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List...ntalist_skills

I am personally going for guardian for kind of that battle mage feel, but I also like the soldier theme they got.

wow is good because its available to mac platform as well as pc , i know a lot of people who play wow because its the only good mmorpg that they can play, look at other games, no rift for them, no swtor no gw 2 only wow, and don't say bootcamp or buy a pc , that is not an option thats the platform they have chosen and the game is not available for them so they won't play it , simple as that

Why is it not an option? Overpay for a polished turd and can't spend another $100 for an OS?
But really, people with Macs will have to get used to this, I see it getting worse before getting better.

To the one saying there's no "battlemage" look up mesmer or elementalist!

Look at this skill --> http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fiery_Greatsword (elementalist elite skill)

" When summoned, the greatsword falls from the sky in a ball of fire and must be picked up by the player in order to be used.
Once equipped, it changes your first 5 weapon skills.
Once summoned it lasts for 30 seconds, but may be dropped prematurely at any time. "

180s CD though, but still superawesome!

This. Some people get really mad when someone doesn't like GW2. Who cares? Link them to the mass info thread if they seem to know nothing about GW2 but are interested, and if they still don't like GW2 then just ignore them. Getting angry about it, just makes people think we are douchebags. (pardon my french)

I actually recognise this myself. The Mac users I know are thrilled over how well WoW runs. Not to say that they only play WoW against their will because it's the only MMORPG that they can play without issues on their setups and that is available at that.

It's a shame that a lot of people seem to think that the world only knew meaning once they made their entrance into it. They just cannot handle that someone ain't sharing their way of thinking. Usually one would think that this was reserved for more serious topics such as religion, political views and law but no...MMO-players are behaving worse than many militant fanatics in religion and political views . You should have seen the rager that was on the SWTOR-forum the other night who couldn't handle people enjoying some MMORPGs, but not SWTOR.

Because GW2 isn't going to be just another WoW clone that all the other MMO's have been.
I also guess that people like WoW cause it's so casual and easy to play these days.

The lack of trinity is a huge, huge seller for me. I'd probably still try GW2 if it had trinity...but I'd be afraid I'd get bored very quickly of the problems that beset other games.

Why do I dislike the trinity? Firstly, because of the bottleneck it places on trying to find a group to do an instance - it's okay if you're a tank or healer...but it you wanna play DPS, then, in my experience, you can expect to wait a lot longer or/and be a lot more proactive about spamming "DPS looking for party to do x" or "Party looking for tank". All things being equal, I'd prefer to spend my time in game *doing* an instance - rather than trying to put a team together...and I never want to think "perhaps I should create a tank - I don't want to, but it's gonna be the easiest way of experiencing this content".

One of the other problems I think the trinity causes is that encounters become very generic...your role very rarely changes - a healer will spend their time looking at health bars, the DPS will stand in the same relative places and fire the same spells in the same order. Once you pick your job pretty much every single encounter will be the same for you - it may be a boss, with a more complex mechanic...but the way you defeat that boss is the same every time. People can play whilst mostly concentrating on their TV...I personally dont find this repetition all that fun or engaging.

Finally - all of the MMOs I've played recently have had the trinity...so there's a lack of choice. Sometimes I might want to play my healer, for that experience...sometimes I might want the non-trinity experience...but up until now, I have no options...you either play a trinity game, or you don't play. The fact that GW2 will give me a different way of playing - coupled with the fact that they share the same ideas about playing and how it might be improved means that, for me, this is a very big deal.

    Well...the things I don't like about questing...

The play in WoW, Rift, SWTOR is the same - you find a quest hub, you run around and pick up all of the quests, you run out in to the world and kill 10 rats and collect 10 badgers noses. You return to the hub, cash your quests in and then get quests to kill 10 giant rats and collect 10 badgers ears. You run out in to the world...and this goes on and on and on until you get a quest that leads you to the next hub...were you do the whole thing over. You never (or rarely) need to return to the hub you just cleared. After having played Wow since launch day - I just don't find this kind of play very thrilling any more. To be fair on SWTOR, it's less painful because of the amazing story arcs etc.

When you create a new character, you'll pass through each hub again...and do exactly the same quests...everything is exactly as it was the first time you saw it. The illusion of movement and progression that is created the first time - that has you pass through areas and then never return - it all seems to feel a little artificial...you realise that the world is just one huge treadmill.

So, again, sometimes you wanna just log in to a game and do this kind of grind...but if you weren't in the mood for that - but you still wanted to play an MMO, well you're out of options. All of the games handle it in the same way...after you play a few games, they all begin to feel ooooh so familiar...in essence, your activities in any of these games is pretty much the same. I think it's unfair to say that SWTOR is WoW but with a star wars skin - but - you do begin to at least see where the folk who say that are coming from.

I think the thing is, obviously, some people go for one experience and some prefer another - the existence of any of these games doesn't have to be exclusive. It's just nice that something is coming along that says "actually, we're gonna do this different".

there will not be any large instanced raid content, but there are 5 mans and game-world large scale Dynamic Event "raid" content. which is great for getting people out of cities imo. the only game recently with this kind of potential was Aion; 6 man dungeons but MASSIVE in-game world PvPvE raids which made for some awesome encounters.

but the main issue that i see people are going to have to come to grips with is that GW2 does end-game content differently from the WoW-era of MMOs. remember that instanced raiding was a WoW thing for the most part, and it was born as a remedy to some of the issues brought about with open-world bosses in games like EQ. the open-world bosses are seen by a lot of people as more fun because the size of the group can be larger and they also don't bar players from ever experiencing that content through things like attunements, gear checks, schedules. what ANet have done is fix most of the issues associated with open-world boss encounters such as griefing, mob tagging, kill stealing, etc and are bringing back that old school open-world raid experience but much improved. and if people like it they will look to GW2's "end-game" as being the norm, much like instance raids are now due to WoW. in other words people, open your minds!

I barely understood your points, but:

    1. You make it more simple and easy than it is.

    2. So... lag... yeah... okay... doesn't happens in any other game yeah...

    3. It's about playstyle...

    4. As they say, they want to earn their money by content, so I believe they will make a lot of expansions. People make it more of a problem than it ever is.

    5. Personal Story for one thing.

    6. False. Those fees are paid by parents, making it even more likely that kids do it over, say, people who just moved from home and uses the next few years on getting everything settled. Kids also ain't bad, you can just not group with them, and if they don't contribute, won't matter for you.

    7. Not really. Believe they use really really low computers to test how low it can play on, think they used stuff you couldn't buy anymore?

    8. ....What.

This kind of game has better chance to grant audience AFTER release.
Also I can't believe people do complain about absence of monthly fees. WTF is going on in this world?!?
Death is complicated? Really, running to your corpse in Classic at low level was more complicated and annoying. There was some places that was reallly bad dying, where you couldn't do anything else than die.

1.So? even data mining requires a bit of time when the game is completly new.

2.That is only if the servers can't handle the amount of people online. Considering WvWvW is made for thousands of players, this will probably not be a problem.

    3. Kick-ass dagger? lol, sorry but the "kick-ass" dagger will not be stronger than your old dagger (only applies if you are max lvl) There are rare weapons ingame idd, but they will mostly be visualy "kick-ass".

    4. GW 1 has only cosmetic stuff in their shop, and you know what? Their servers have been running for a loooooong time.

    5. "Personal story" covers that.

    6. Kid's play what they think look cool. WoW, SWOTR, CoD, LoL, etc.

    7. GW2 use's a heavily modified GW1 engine. Last time i heard, if you can run GW1 on High settings without problems. You should be able to run GW2 on low.

    8. I do not understand if you try to be negative or posetive here. :/

Hope i put some sense into you:O

People dont think or dont want GW2 to be better game than wow because its free to play.
Most of my friends too think stereotypically that gw2 wont be good game because its f2p...

just a reminder, gw2 will have all the positive stuff that wow has and then all the godness of its own...but not the negative = grinding, boring kill quests, fun quests come after 10 boring quests etc.

and gw2 will be better for your wallet, 7 years of playing wow has already cost me over 1000e. When gw2 will only cost the game itself and whatever micro transactions i want to pay. Because of f2p model gw2 wont force you to play. :P Im happy with that, i can play other games too... when i do that with WoW im just losing money.

You might be interested in the guardian or even a bit of warrior warrior tbh. Some of their skills fall into the category of, kinda, a what u say about a battlemage...and ultimately every prof has some melee abilit...even ele. We might be surprised about what they can do in game
Certainly not canon-esque battlemages...but it's at least offensive magic supplementing melee...visa versa...

On a side note...I think I remember battle mages in some places being only magic users who solely use offensive magic, Dragonlance for one if I remember the knights of solamnia right from about 15 years ago...but meh, I'm not trying to argue anything. The whole melee mixed with magic user, for me personally, has always felt more like a wrathful monk than a battle mage.
