I can't believe it's really happening. I still think of this game as being so far off, but it's really not.That last question is the big one, eh? And, I cannot answer it because I don’t know the answer. What I can tell you is that we’re currently in Closed Beta and planning has begun for an Open Beta. It’s all extremely exciting, and the game is coming along smashingly. It really is like magic when it all starts coming together and you see what an enormous accomplishment you’ve contributed to.
For those that didn't know GW1 had Open Beta weekends, where anyone could log in and play over the weekends. It was what really hooked me on the game. Hopefully this is what GW2 is planning to do, I can't imagine them straying from it since the system worked out really well with GW1.
There's no date or anything, just mention of them planning open beta. But the fact that they are even planning for it means it can't be tremendously far off.

I didn't think about gw2 possibly having an open beta weekend where anyone could play, that sounds awesome. I think it'd be a great way to test out WvW battles also.
This interview as as well as the Ree Soesbee interview on guildwarsinsder were really great reads.

when i seen this page on front of the mmo-champion site i start saying to my self , dont get your hopes up its not about gw2

Saying that they're planning for the open beta could mean a lot of things. Probably should not read too much into it. Take a breath, calm down, and get back to waiting.

What a buzz kill man. Just let people have their moment. I feel like a pessimistic outlook would still put open beta around April or May. By which point some people may have already exploded from the excitement, so hopefully it happens sooner. Originally Posted by Primal Zed

I agree to a certain extent, but the second quarter is just a couple months away. If they're already getting the "papers ready" for open beta, then we might be expecting it around late LATE February, with and official release in mid to late March/early to mid April. We won't be waiting for much longer, by the sound of it. Either way, no one should get their hopes up for anything. Just keep your eyes glued on GW2 news sources and get your HoM rewards while you can (if you care about them). Originally Posted by Primal Zed

PAX is easter weekend.
I bet they release it a week or two after, so they can put one final hype push into it all to get more initial sales
