Buy Nocturnal Gaze with VP to replace 333?

I have been stuck with the normal 333 Shocktrooper Hood for a really long time. I have had absolutely no luck getting anything better. I regularly cleared ZA/ZG to try for the 353 one, no luck. I have been doing WoE forever, to the point of being sick to death of it, and never once seen the leather helm. Now I have 2200 VP, and I'm wondering if it's worth it to just buy the Nocturnal Gaze and accept that as my offset piece. I realize optimal is to use the Morchok shoulders as offset, but at this point I'm in DS without a Meta gem helm.

What would you guys recommend in my shoes? Thanks

get the VP helm, since its defantly your biggest VP upgrade, and sell it again once you get tier helm.

Yeah, get the VP head, it's a huge upgrade to get to 397 from 333. You'll get those VP back eventually so technically you're only losing time invested in getting those points required for the VP head. But definitely get the Morchok shoulders even if you don't have the set helm if no one else wants to take those, there's no telling when the shoulders might drop again, if ever.

Other possibility could of course be running LFR for the helm.

keep doing lfr each week (try with like 5 or 7 vanquishers) grouped together and try and get the helm token.. its much simpler.

i know that helm is gay but it eventually drops.. save ur vp imo.

Well I actually already have the 397 Morchok shoulders which is what sucks so much. I just hate to be running regular mode raids with a damn 333 item without so much as a meta slot.

No doubt, since it's such a great upgrade it's just as the previous poster stated, just keep this one until you get the tier helm really (Shadowcraft is a very neat tool too if you would want to know how big of a upgrade it is)

Get the helm, get the big upgrade. Helm might never drop in DS or LFRDS... thats how it is for my 3 85s.

Lovely, same went for one of my guilds SPs, he had 359 shoulders all thru firelands because he never saw the upgrade drop ^-^

I'd say go for it, purchase the VP head. I've been running LFR with people to roll for me for 8 weeks, as well as clearing Normal, and I'm still stuck with a 378 head slot.

Do you have the cloak and neck allready?
Do you PvP? if so just use the pvp head...
Make sure you run LFR and obviously the new dungeons, get one of your guild tanks to queue you up...
Unless you have nothing to spend your points on i would go for notcurnal.
In some cases the trinket ( good for occasional fights) and the thrown (if the morchok aint droppin) are better ways to spend your points.
If you have your 4 set allready (ass/combat) you could get the helm
If you are sub you shouldnt even be thinking about this and just get your T12 helm for now...

Just keep running the HoT heroics, Helm of Thorns will drop eventually.

Even if a Feral wins it.

I wish my belt would drop off Petho'arn.

Well the 4 piece T13 isn't all that amazing. It's nice and all but the stats you get from upgrading your helmet outweighs it by far.

EDIT:
Excuse me, this is for Combat. In all fairness I haven't tried the other two specs after getting my 4 piece.

If you really want to save the VP get the pvp helm, its a huge upgrade over what you have and wont set you back 2 weeks worth of vp.

I main switched to my rogue at the start of the patch. I had the same mentality, that the helm would drop eventually. It ended up taking 22 runs through that damn instance.

Like others have said, save your VP and just buy PvP gear. It's easy to get. I've had to do this for my shoulders on my main every patch because I literally have never been successful rolling on an upgrade for them. Ever, since Cata released! It's extremely lame, but one piece of PvP gear isn't going to break your game.
