Need some quick help regarding hdmi and refresh rates.

So I've noticed I got a new monitor that says it can go up to 75hz refresh rate yet I have to reduce my resolution drastically, now I would love to keep my monitor at 1920 x 1080 and have a refresh rate of 75hz so I did some research and came across what looked like a scam.

So my question is, can a HDMI cable increase refresh rates?

Also, would it be worth it to reduce my resolution for the 75hz refresh rate?

I tested the 75hz refresh rate and man it looks so smooth, I just wish that smoothness for a 1920 x 1080 resolution.

edit: I should add some info about the cable i'm using. It's a dvi cable simple as that.

You'd want a DVI dual link cable for getting more than 60hz for best smoothness, HDMI's capacity is at 60hz if I remember correctly
    i7-6700k 4.2GHz | Gigabyte GTX 980 | 16GB Kingston HyperX | Intel 750 Series SSD 400GB | Corsair H100i | Noctua IndustialPPC
    ASUS PB298Q 4K | 2x QNIX QH2710 | CM Storm Rapid w/ Reds | Zowie AM | Schiit Stack w/ Sennheiser HD8/Antlion Modmic

    Armory

Well that's good, I didn't waste money on an hdmi cable.

I'm kinda sad that my monitor only does 60Hz at 1920 x 1080, I might just downgrade the resolution for that smoother 75Hz setting. Man I wish I knew what refresh rates were before shopping for a monitor.
