Ways to tell a vanilla player from a Cata player

When you hit max level and had to grind dungeons for weeks just to get a full set of BLUE lightforge dungeon set one. And then countless hours (days) of farming and gold making just to turn one piece at a time in an epic soulforge item. Not to mention it was a mix of str/int/agi/spi.. little of everything and not much of anything by todays standards. Gearing up is so easy now.

Ya son, raise your dreadsteed feats of strength up in the air, wave them like you just don't care. (On that note saw a lock spewing how he was oldschool, but didn't have that acheive, hehe)

In that lock's defense, getting the achievement was expensive as gold was hard to come by.

I remember grinding demons for hours in order to get felcloth to sell on the AH. Probably not the most efficient way, but at least I wasn't competing with people over primals.

Hunter, with a 16-slot ammo bag.
Started the quest with perhaps all but one slot full of stacks of ammo. Might be misremembering, but IIRC they only stacked to 200 originally? ...so this would be about 3000 rounds. Got the first horn after perhaps 2 stacks of ammo killing Yetis in the cave.
By the time I got the 2nd, I had less than a single stack of ammo, and had sworn to drop the *(&^#&*#$ quest if I didn't get it in one ammo-bag full.

Roughly, that's something like 1000 yetis and HOURS in that g-d cave. I was pretty much 3-shotting them at 60.

Druid quest chains to get their different forms. I actually enjoyed it when quests took you all over Azeroth. It actually felt like an accomplishment turning in a quest for ZF from a quest giver in swamp of sarrows. The instant gratification has ruined questing in a lot of ways.

In regards to the wowmatrix comment, we used wowACE or whatever, and some addon that allowed our guild leader to be all communist dictator making sure we had sufficient mana potions and nature resist/fire resist gear.

You can usually tell the Vanilla players apart because they're the ones moaning about how Vanilla was better.. or how they are better than you or their opinions are more valid because they've been playing for 7 years.

Oh and they complain about how the game is SOOOO much easier than it used to be.

Well to be fair, it is leaps and bounds easier than it used to be. The polished state of the controls, the refined questing system, the ease of getting upgrades and the speed of which you can level.

This is a fact, and it doesn't separate anyone from anything. People who complain about it are complainers, that doesn't mean they are veteran players.

Being noobish and not really understanding that this is/was problably the worst trinket ever. But I had no trinkets, I NEEDED to fill that slot. Whats worse is people were like "woo hoo, GRATZ!" in guild. Only a few PVP'ers at the time knew it was crap. lol But they didn't bust my bubble.

Packing a lunch to get to Desolace and then asking how are there so many people able to get into Maraudon with us? hehe

Flight Master Kiting and Flight master giefing. I could go to Sentinel Hill at any level well into TBC even and the same undead warrior was there. I don't think he/she slept.

Cata players: Maybe this one sums it up. Why can't I QUEUE for a BG and LFR at the same time?

Ah I remember our warlock unleashing his Infernal during an instance we did kill the trash + adds, but the infernal got us afterwards good times ;P

I don't think there are many universal ways to spot Vanilla players.

There are numerous things they'll have been prone to experiencing, but wouldn't necessarily have come into contact with.

Chiefly because back in Vanilla, not everyone was able to get around to everywhere and explore everything and there weren't massive websites devoted to telling you where to find every insignificant quest item, crafting material or item drop location.

I think i can say that Vanilla players will know what Thottbot is, though.

Questing on my first noobish warrior in western plaguelands. No matter what you tried to pull to you by shooting, you managed to aggro the whole god damn zone and had then no chance to get away
Oh, and in TBC. warrior rng mace stun + stormherald. Pure win that started 10min of whining anytime it went in your favor

I was recently on my Geared tank with friends and had one pug dps complaining because we were not CCing and called us wrath babies. We all LoL'd. I have never been called that until then.
