You didn't like them removing grinds so you left. I'm still playing precisely because they removed a lot of the pointless grinds. I think everyone won!
It had a point. It was called getting gear to kill a boss just like you do now only with resistances. A pointless grind is farming the same reputation on 50 characters. A pointless grind is killing Deathwing 20 times expecting something different to happen. A pointless grind is everything that WoW has come to be. Godmode can only be fun for so long before you get tired of it.

I did the FR/FrR/NR/SR grind. Hell, I even farmed arcane resist for a raid encounter! It sucked. I'm glad they removed it. I'm enjoying WoW these days and signed up for the annual pass.

The people who miss it have either already quit or are threatening to quit because they hate everything about WoW these days.

So you quit and go find a more "hardcore" game that suits you since obviously WoW is not the game for you. I keep playing WoW and enjoying the casual content.

Looks like everyone is where they want to be.

I hardly see how farming is supposed to be "hardcore". But I guess the next thing to be hardcore is going to be doing quests involving the killing of more than two mobs.

a few questlines to do before entering a raid would be nice, make it so you need it only to enter the normal versions, lfr keep it as it is

i miss the "guild" part of the game, where you brought together some people and helped a guildmate to accomplish something... ony quest, ubrs quest, warlock quest, hunter quest, priest quest... and so on, that was fun, and having some of the items, like ubrs key, meant something
    Brutal!!

As long as they keep creating content, I'll keep coming back. New content introduces new grinds. My point is, they could make the expansions last longer if they introduced more grinds that had a point and removed the ones that have no point. Pointless grinds have little to no reward at the end of them and become boring quick. Like I would argue the old leveling system was a lot better because you obtained your first mount at level 40. It was a longer grind and the reward was awesome! To be honest, if they moved flying mounts to be obtained at max level, it would make leveling that much more bearable because you have something to look forward to at the end. That is important. Going faster isn't much of a reward, but items with a visual effect and their own unique purpose are.

...I don't think anybody goes into DS expecting the fight to be any different. A horrible bastardization of a good quote if I ever heard one. :P

Maybe you might have bad luck on Deathwing loot? :P

...and valor/gems are always good for AH selling. ^_^

And me, personally? I always loved it when bosses went on farm mode because it meant a much more relaxed evening to joke and have fun being social with the guild as opposed to dealing with disgustingly high tensions and what-not.

the convenience introduced over the years (lfr, lfg, no groupquests, valor points) desocialized the game and the guilds, but it is what it is, at least i have 7 alts now that i can play, even though i don´t care much for them
    Brutal!!

I honestly loved gathering fire resistance for me AND my guildies. I remember farming a certain boss in BWD because he drops a green fire res ring with random properties and I needed just the right properties. I remember completely filling my bags with dark iron ore gathered by the guild and stealthing into BWD all the way to the back, where the dark iron forge is found, then solo the elite fire elemental near it (yikes!), so I could smelt the ore. Replacing blue gear with lesser gear (only viable way to get epics was in Molten Core, so everyone started with full blue) just for the fire resistance. When finally getting to ragnaros, taking a quick trip to blackrock spire just for the extra fire resistance buff.

I loved the onyxia questline too. You didn't just do it yourself, you helped out your guildies, otherwise there would be no raid. Back then the game really forced you to work together as a guild, I love that.

How many folks who are complaining about how time consuming this game is are also vp capping several alts per week?
You nailed it. I couldn't have worded it better.

I didnt mind the farming of that gear back then.
I liked the idea to prepare for a battle and be happy when everything is done to finally start a battle. Improving each week on the boss
when the gear gets better. It was also like an RP element for me that i need to prepare for something.
Sure, it wasnt always fun but thats part of it.
Like killing the green dragons back then and knowing with each NR item we get, it will make AQ40 a bit less stressfull.

In TBC IMO it was very good middle solution with only tanks requiring real resistance gear and only one raid wide encounter (mother) where farming
    the gear wasnt that bad.
    "A fool's paradise is a wise man's hell!"

WoW leveling/heroic/LFR difficulty in one line of code:
    do {press (AnyKey)} until MobHealth=0;

I'm with your on this. I really wouldn't mind taking 3 months to get ready for a raid. Farming resistances can be fun - they can be crafted by professions, dropped by dungeons, bought from factions, etc. But the problem is now that there's 10 000 000 people who might not share our opinion. And the better solution is to keep the game simple and quickly accessible for the masses and make money, than make a game that 10 000 people will enjoy. Thus I do not blame Blizzard.

In most of these MMO hardcore/casual discussion(especially in a discussion about mindless resist farming), the amount of time it takes to do something is the point of discussion. Take a look at the third post in this very thread. Perhaps you might like to take an equal opportunity crack at all the posters in this thread who think that Blizzard removing resist gear farming makes the game too casual? It seems to me that if you don't think a farming timesink makes the game more hardcore, then removing said timesink in no way makes the game more casual.

I don't understand the rose tinted glasses about resistance gear farming. It was a pain in the arse. You could progress quite a way into Molten Core without any form of resistance gear, then you had a cock-block thrown in your way - well you may have gotten this far, but if you don't have X amount of resistance your raid is pretty much screwed.
And the Onyxia scale cloaks were a pain in the arse too - given that Ony gave only a very limited number of scales when skinned and you had at least 40 people to outfit with cloaks (a lot more for us, given that my guild was doing 40 man raids in an alliance of many smaller guilds at that point - a lot player turnover) you could be farming for MONTHS and still not have a full raid equipped with cloaks for Nef.
At least with BC attunements you could get an entire raid attuned in one go - so long as they could loot the quest items.
