    I'd rather listen to music.
It's could've and would've. Not could of and would of. Not sure when "of" started meaning "have," but everyone who thinks it does needs to go back to school.

    What do you mean?
If you unplug your mic, you can still hear others, it's just they can't hear you.

I don't have a mic, because mine broke, and I used to replace them when they broke, but now I don't see a need to communicate, so I don't buy it.

When i play on MW3, it's normally just me and 3 other people in the lobby who has a mic, but they never talk anyways. I'm mostly in party chat... But when i'm in game chat and someone speaks, i love it. Why? Becuase MW3 added the feature of when you kill someone, you can hear them for a few seconds. It's like *kill the guy* "OMFG THAT'S BULLSHIT"!!!!

I love listening to them rage.

I usually sit in vent with the people that im playing with since my pc monitor is my tv. I hate hearing 10 year olds singing into their mic.

I still use mine, only to talk to friends when I'm playing though. Never again would I use it when playing on live by myself with all those 5 year olds yelling and screaming.

You answered your own question. Back in Halo 2 days. Those days were legendary. It was rare seing lobbies without 16/16 people having mics.. Oh those BTBs. I think the overall Xbox population just changed. I tend to always have a mic ready to use, if I'm in a lobby with someone who's chattery.

Pretty much this, people who keeps saying after they ran into 12 year olds they threw their mics down are either just trying to ride the cool wave of hate by pretendning or really dont listen to thier tv, unplugging your mic does nothing to make the 12 year old kid go away so why even unplug the headset? Just mute them, not that hard, most games have a fast easy way to do it in under 3 seconds.

If i dont have a headset in its cus im listening to music and dont want to annoy people by it blasting over the headset but i ussually have my headset in.

While unplugging the mic doesn't stop their voice, it does stop it from being piped directly into your ear.

Most games also have a function to turn down mic or player voice volume levels, which is what I think the posters are getting out.

You know I'd like to point out that people always whine and complain about 12 year olds ruining their games. Even back in early 2000's the internet was full of people saying that the 11 and 12 year olds are messing up the games. What I find funny is that, yes some 12 year olds are bad and do screw up, yet for the most part they are new to the game, or gaming in general. Now here is the funny part, a larger majority of the bad players were in their 20's and 30's, they also were the ones most likely to rage in every aspect possible. I say this from being one of the 12 year olds from the early 2000's. I remember being 13 and 14, and being told how bad my age group was at all sorts of games. I remember owning the people that made those claims, and then being accused of hacks. I remember when I started playing WoW in '04 and when my guild happened to learn my age in '05, were surprised at how young I was despite skill and maturity.
So, instead of labeling bads as age groups, can we just put the bads in the group that they belong in, "the bads" group? There are newbs, there are n00bz, and then there are bads. We all started off as newbs, some of those newbs degenerated into n00bz, and most of those n00bz turned into bads. Can we just call them what they are please?

Headphone + standalone/clip-on mic = always better sound experience, and for less than a headset.
Eventually, the hassle of the mic is not worth it.

I use mic mostly when skyping with friends and whatnot. I realise this is for Xbox mostly, but my point remains. Sound quality > hassle of a headset.

the reason they annoy me isnt how they play, its how they talk. dont care about their age but 80% of the people who do talk on xbox just insult and swear at each other. all i hear is the N word being shouted at each other and trash talking, i can do without listening to that. and people shouting and screaming down the mic when ever they get shot on cod, drives me mad, so i just mute people or turn down the volume on headset.

I only have my mic in if my friends are on, if they aren't I don't see a reason to have it plugged in at all. It gets annoying hearing people blaring the music with their mic's on all the time or hearing somebody just scream the entire game. I'm able to focus more without all of that anyways.

I always have my headset ready to go, if I'm not using it it's because I'm listening to music. Nothing like playing Tool, Rise Against, and A Perfect Circle while killing people in BF3. But it is annoying that nobody ever uses them anymore, and even less use it for what it's meant for in the game. I do like being squad leader in BF3 because when that special asshat blaring music into his headset makes his way into my squad I'll just kick him out of the squad.

It's weird. Back in the days of Halo 2 I always played with my mic in. I was very vocal and was adamant about leading, planning strategies, and calling things out. Even when I switched to Gears of War as Halo 2 was becoming less populated, I still always played with my mic in, and I was just generally very social. In Halo 3, Gears 2, Halo: Reach, and Gears 3, I virtually never used my mic, and eventually I just unplugged it. Strangely, I found most other people had done the same.

    It's a conspiracy!!!

all i ever hear when my nephew or sisters boyfriend (he's 30 odd :P ) playing are annoying kids whining and bitching or making stupid noises

as mics become mroe and more accessible, they become less and less used for their intended purpose within the games, why should i use my mic when most others are just whiney kids (unless you're playing clan games then i see them as usueful obviously )
