How do I dps with high latency

Do to circumstances beyond my control, I will be playing with at least 800ms latency for the next 9 months. I normally play combat and would like to stay combat. The biggest problem I've noted so far is that I'm constantly missing the SS proc and RvSing at five CP's. I've tried slowing my rotation down but that causes me to energy cap. Would it be better to just switch up to assas? I considered using sub (my current offspec) but with high latency it is nearly impossible to keep all of my buffs/debuffs rolling and sub ends up failing hard (or rather I end up failing hard with sub). Basically my options right now are to switch speccs, continue RvS'ing at the occasional 5 CP's, or dump the SS glyph. Anyone out there playing combat with high latency that can help me out with some advice?

at 800ms it's practically impossible to play well. Make sure you have skill queuing on, it helps with latency, however with 800MS it's next to impossible to pull of a perfect rotation. I'd suggest trying to fix it asap, maybe tunnels if it's out of your control (I.e. you live in Oceania).

I'm going to be honest, 800 MS is beyond ridiculously hard to play or even Impossible to play ''Well'' OP

Sigh, yeah it's kinda useless. Perhaps after a month or two I'll develop a rogue guide for terrible interwebz lol

Good luck on that, I think once you get into the rotation, the game can catch up, but getting it started and then target swapping etc will be ridiculous. I think playing Rogue due to the CP system isnt best either, a caster or something with limited procs may have been best for that kinda latency.

800ms is almost 1 second delay, in a MMO or FPS game this is an obsceanly long delay. I would if I where you take a break from serious raiding / PVP untill it is resolved. you will only frustrate yourself and your team members.

What if, The light at the end of the tunnel at the end of your life, is the first light you see when your born ?

You're gonna basically have to learn how to play without your UI and anticipate bosses 1 second in advance, so say a boss is about to do a one shot thing unless you jump, you're gonna have to basically jump a second before you would normally have to, which can mean you may have to do it before bosses even start to do things. Good luck.

I struggle to raid with 300-400 ms, and you have 800ms!! I thought my internet was bad.

200ms is a good day for me.

10 man is fine, but 25 man, on an AOE spamming fight like madness, or ultraxion with all it's background pointless AOE shit and sometimes I'll D/C from the lag.

I used to play with shite lag, was about the same as yours but even now mine cruises at about 300 or so, and to be honest you will start getting used to moving a second or 2 before you even need to. The procs will be annoying but what will kill you is the server delay between you and large buffs like hero and trinkets for nuking.

When I had shit lag I moved into tanking since it is a pretty slow. Maybe take a break from the rogue for now and level something. Hell has your dps really suffered that much?

Yeah, I have an 85 H Pally and P Warrior, Healing with this kinda latency is out of the question so I may start focusing on my warrior. My concern there though is fights like ultraxion where I may not be able to time heroic will.

There is a DPS loss with this kind of latency but as others have pointed out, it's mainly timing the GFO moments that kill me (and my dps).

I can't imagine raiding with that kind of latency. Is there no better internet available? I'm usually around 16ms.

I usually have anywhere from 250 to 500 ms. It's a huge pain in the rear end, but I still pull competitive numbers. I spent a couple of hours at the dummy after my latency kept staying up there. But 800 seems unplayable, I would just stop raiding/pvping unfortunately.

    You don't.

Rogue is not a class that works with high latency. The short global cooldown tied with the recharging resource make it probebly the worst class to pick in such a case.

Whoa, and I thought my recent 200-300 MS was bad, 800 has got to SUCK. I hope you'll be able to cope with it.

But yeah, just by going up 200 MS, one can notice the huge difference. Heck, I dare say I'd probably lie on top of my guild's DPSers if it wasn't for the fact that latency screws up my timing quite a bit. (By the way, I'm a Hunter, sorry for invading your Rogue thread!)

Good luck man. And if there is any way to fix it soon, let's hope that works out for you.

I've had to cope with alot of latency in my raiding days, sometimes 600+ - I've tried alot of classes and the one dps class I find to be least affected by latency is a Retribution pala... it has more "waiting" then many classes and there is not a strict rotation/buffs etc. u need to keep up

    Best of luck

How can you even enjoy playing with that latency? Maybe you should look over your addiction a bit. Take a break untill it's resolved, because you look really desperate to wanna play with 800 ms :P

The prio system is very strict if you don't want to lose substantional dps.

I'd really recommend not going Combat with that high of latency. Combat is the only rogue spec that requires split second decisions, the other two are much more lag friendly.

Also, is there any chance you could play on a server closer to where you're gonna be?

I wouldn't say so. I'd say combat is easier with a 4 button spam rotation as to Assassination don't let rupture drop, don't clip Envenom, make sure you don't go over 90e< and Sub with lag? Don't even bother.

Changing Server is probably out of the question due to you having a guild no doubt with friends you play with. You can't change your internet, however no one should be paying for 800ms. That's really silly.

I'd say Assassination or combat are your only real choice. I'm sliding towards combat on this one though.

You have got to be kidding. Combat is the worst spec to pick from with high latency in the whole game simply because it is near global cooldown capped.

Opposing to assasination who barely has to act once per 3 seconds.

Well I had the same amount of latency when i first started playing WOW, wasn't as much of an issue then because I was leveling and sucked anyways. It's not horrible now, I'm still doing top dps in those stupid LFR's however I did miss a heroic will because of the lag. I'll try raiding with the guild once and see if I'm that much of a detriment. If I can still stay alive and pull competitive numbers I'll be happy as a pig in shit. If not, then I guess there is always archeology and aquiring as many pets as possible! (Blech)
