Question How well do you think this sound card will work?

I swear the faculty adviser for my computer club at my college is amazing. So I was talking to him today about how I want to use this ancient Microsoft joystick from likely 1999, but it has an old DA-15 Gameport as its plug, and while I did try buying a Logitech Attack 3 joystick, that thing was garbage, (couldn't turn) and I figure I'd rather save money, so he just so happened to pull out of a box, this:

My question to you folks: How easy or tough do you think this thing will be to get to work on my rig? It's a PCI Legacy lane sound card, and it says "supports Windows 95, 98, NT, and 2000" on the box. x_x lol I can only hope it will work alright in the virtual machine running XP 32-bit.

Don't you already have a sound card?

Either way, not a chance. Last driver update was December 2002.

Yeah, I do, and this wouldn't be for sound purposes, since I did mention I want to use it for joystick reasons. I guess I'll try it out anyways. XP should pick it up since that came out so soon after 2000, as I recall.

I'm really confused... Why would you use a sound card as a joystick interface?

Because that's how old school sound cards were. ;p Old joystick ports were the old MIDI ports, which could be used for many things, joysticks being one. Don't ask me why they put these ports on sound cards, of all cards. :P It confuses me too. x_x

It should work fine, and you'll be able to disable the audio leaving the gameport available (through device manager).

Plug it in, try it out. If it finds drivers, fine. If not, download them yourself. If it refuses to accept them, manually force it to use the specific driver (Use the found new hardware wizard - start > run > hdwwiz - to manually select a specific driver you've downloaded).

Worst case scenario? It blue screens, refuses to boot back into Windows... and uh... yeah, you then roll back to the restore point you made before trying any of this. Arn't you smart?

I still don't think that's a gameport. I know what speakers you have. Look at the back of the sub on them. (The same ones that I had, assuming you also know what I'm talking about.) They're the same port...

Go to bed, fuzzy, your brain has stopped working.

My computer did detect the sound card and I think it detected the joystick, I know the joystick connected perfectly, because it's the proper port size.... It's a DA-15 port on the joystick with only 9 of the ports, but it is the DA-15 size, so yeah.... will be installing the driver onto my XP VM and I had a friend who has been doing this for 20-30 years say it should definitely work, since she works with VMs too. Hoping she's right. :P
