U.S. Presidential race - Republican Discussion

As we draw closer to the U.S. presidential race, we're condensing our threads into two. One for the Republican candidates, and one for the Democrats. As of now, we have remaining:

    Mitt Romney
    http://www.mittromney.com/
    Newt Gingrich
    http://www.newt.org/
    Rick Santorum
    https://www.ricksantorum.com/
    Ron Paul
    http://www.ronpaul2012.com/

Feel free to discuss anything and everything here.

I'm personally glad Wells is on board!

And? As much as no one likes to admit it, the White Supremecists are a part of the voting public in the US.

What? The 'report' Wells linked just said that Ron Paul had met with the leader of their group, and that group was campaigning for Ron Paul. Votes are Votes and if Paul wants a chance he needs to get some in the next couple primaries.

It said nothing about him being a White Supremecist or promising that the south will rise again or anything like that.

Yeah if he wants to openly court a white supremacist group he can go ahead and do it.

Indeed. Doesn't seem like he was very open about it though.

I'm liking Romney. Oh wait, no I'm not. I'm just not disliking him as much as everyone else.

I don't hate Obama, but I'd rather see him gone. While is domestic policy could be much worse, his handling of foreign relations is embarrassing. I can't understand why, but he makes a point of appeasing our enemies (who are, on average, weak and untrustworthy), while telling our allies (many of which are powerful and dependable) to fuck off.

Debate economics and social issue all you want, but Republicans are unarguably better at foreign relations.

I just wish Paul Ryan would have run. Him, or Mitch Daniels. I've lived in Indiana almost my entire life, and Daniels has been pretty good for us.

Because invading two countries, one for a reason and the other to finish 'daddys war' and then lowering taxes and brushing the price of the wars under the rug so the next president would have to deal with it is good foreign and domestic relations?

Both of the problems you stated with those wars are completely domestic. My claim only pertains to foreign relations.

One of the biggest keys to 2012 is voter enthusiasm.

    democrats 10 year chart:

    republicans 10 year chart:

    http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/wp-...og-570x342.gif

Republican voter enthusiasm has been at times dwarfing democrat voter enthusiasm this election cycle. The republican's edge here is over double-digits. Also note the times where voter enthusiasm inverted during an election in the past. Inversion means when the percentage of party members who were less enthusiastic (the light green line) was greater. It happened to the democrats in the 2000 election, and they lost. It happened to the republicans in 2008, and they lost. It looks like it will happen again to the democrats in 2012.

The democrats' have a huge enthusiasm problem this cycle. Obama is not just taking hits from the right calling him socialist, he's taking hits from the left over not doing enough for their agenda. Gone are the heady days of 2006-2008 where democrats were marching to the polls in droves.

It appears that the republicans are ready to crawl over broken glass to get to the polls and vote Obama out of office, despite reports that say the party base doesn't particularly get fired up over any of the potential nominees.

This is shaping up to be a cycle where a lot of democrats stay home on election day, while republicans turn out in droves, and independents look at the economy in shambles and break for the challenger in the final weeks.

I could see why such a group would be interested in what he's talking about, not that I think he is a part of the group or any similar group - I believe his intentions are good and pure.
I think overall he is a very poor candidate (but he is honest), and I don't understand his supporters.
It is nice that he understands parts of constitution and all, but constitution allows for amendments and interpretation, and he seems to ignore that part.

I'm a democrat, but Obama isn't democrat enough for me.
The republican lineup is really poor, I would rather vote for a republican, than for Obama who caves in to Republicans on almost every issue so far.

I can't believe you posted tinfoil conspiracy garbage like this. The "connection" is between some filmmaker named Jamie Kelso and A3P. None of these are connected to the Paul campaign. Kelso and his own supporters happen to support Ron Paul, that's it.

There are alot of controversial groups in the US and I'm sure all of them have atleast some political opinions and have their favorite presidential candidates.

So i take it you dont count Ron Paul as a republican?

Also - supporting Israel in everything no matter what doesnt seem to be a responsible thing to do and will bite the US in the ass at some point...

If you're not gonna bomb it, you're not doing it right.

Saying stuff like that is equivalent with anti-semiticism in the U.S.

Israel's enemies are also sworn enemies of the US. We'd gain approximately -1 allies by turning on them.
