what can I do during a virus scan?

mostly, i'm wondering what i can or cannot do during a virus scan and other full-system actions like defragmentation and windows update. i know that installing and/or updating software is not done, and that using software is not recommended. but is the computer really unusable while running a scan/defrag/update?

yeah, i know i should run a scan during downtime, when i'm not using it, but these days, that's mostly during the night that i have enough time. most other times, it's not enough time.

It's best to do nothing. I usually run them at night or while I am out.

Really not an issue, I woulnd't do other disk intensive tasks like defragging but browsing the web or typing up a paper or email is fine
