Wink How change is sometimes funny and ironic

So I was just reading some New York Times articles from the late 1800's early 1900's for a College paper. And it was funny to see how "anti-black vote" the Democrats were and republicans (for the most part) were opposite of them and now we have a Black (half) Democrat President...irony at its finest. And I guess the two major parties evolve with time, or at least I hope so...

This is not a race or political thread! Just a funny example of irony.

yes, from what I understand in the old days the Democrats were the conservatives and the republicans were considered liberal.

A high school friend once said to me "I can't understand how anyone votes for republicans when they hate black people."
My response was "No, they hate black democrats. They think black republicans are the best thing since sliced bread."

He then proceeded to explain to me how black republicans weren't really "black". He was kind of an idiot, come to think of it.

Wasn't Obama accused of not being a black (enough)?

Are there ANY black politicians in the United States of A?

Politician is a lot different than a specific elected official position...but yes there are many. More than Whites, no.

Should look up some of the stuff that happened at the Democratic National Conventions during the Civil Rights Movements. It has a lot to do with the changing demographics of the party, at least in the stereotypical sense (what was true back then about the parties is in no way the same as now).

The former head of the Republican party (Michael Steele) is black. Colin Powell is black. Condeliza (not how its actually spelled) Rice is black.
Those are the most famous ones I can think of.

That said, Michael Steele is not somebody you want to look up to.

Seeing that there isn't a particular topic for conversation, closing this out.
