How to prevent Auction House Sniping

    1. Get a toon on both sides Alliance and Horde
    2. Place them both at a Neutral AH
    3. Place the items you want to transfer up for sale at the same price you would on your faction AH
    4. Buy the item from your toon.
    5. Place junk item up for sale at same price as transfer item.
    6. Buy junk item to transfer funds back to original fund holder.

If someone snipes your stuff at the normal price so what. Lol

If opposite toon needs money have that toon place junk item up for sale at the ampount he needs plus commision and transfer the funds.

    Love all

I see one big flaw in your great plan. Namely number 4. You can't buy your own auctions.

Unless you have two different bnet accounts.

another flaw in your plan is that the neutral ah takes a huge chunk out of the cut. Think its about 20%

    True. But not many do.

the biggest flaw is the neutral costs 15% AH cut.

So if you put something up for say 1000g, grats you just lost 150. etc etc

The best way I have found (without involving any mods) is to do a scan, sorted by the cheapest. Don't list it for 1c, because it will always be at the top, and anyone that simply refreshes repeatedly will see it because that is probably a common rookie mistake.

Instead, have the "buyer" account scroll down a bit, maybe halfway down the first page of crap. If it's like my small server, you will still have listing that are for only a few coppers, maybe a few silvers at most. Now the "seller" account will post your item(s) at ~the amount that will put it there in the list when sorted by price. Still scrolled down midway, the "buyer" account can then refresh the postings and the new item will show up buried in the middle of the still relatively cheap stuff.

There is always a risk, but that minimizes the risk without suffering the double 15% for a large posting as suggested in the OP.

Actually the total loss would be 300g since it would be 150g both ways :P

If I am trying to snipe your auctions I will get it. It's totally within ToS too. I'm not going to explain how, but none of these plans would stop me.

I don't snipe auctions though, I just use this method to xfer items.

    No and no.

Sorry, you cannot buy own trades, unless as the person said, you have two accounts. And for the neutral auction house bit, I am pretty sure they take 25%. Because when I sell stuff or transfer 1000g, I only get 750g
    Paladin Mania:
    Gehco (Prot/Holy) | Atourius (Holy/Holy) | Harok (Holy/Ret) | Brynik (Prot/Ret) | Gralias (Prot/Ret) | Arellon(Prot/Ret) - Would have more on, but no room, 1000 chars.

From the makers of Ice Barbed Spear we bring you, ICIER Barbed Spear, now 100% more chilling!

There are 2 problems with your plan:

1.) You can't buy your own auctions (for whatever reason).
2.) Neutral AH takes a 15% cut from your gold.

The only reliable way to not getting sniped is to list during the night and do /who in all the cities. Nobody there ... nobody that can snipe.
(Obviously you do that together with a friend and scan for both factions.)

Also always tell your friend what you are going to post before you do. He can then enter the name and constantly refresh from there. Now if you post (something valuable at say 47g) there is no way someone will be able to scroll to the middle of the neutral AH fast enough to snipe you.

    nuetral ah cut is 15%.

2 accounts is problematic enough, but if you have 2 people on both sides of the fence, running 2 clients simultaneously, I cannot fathom how anyone could possibly "snipe" you. chances of someone stumbling onto your item in the 3sec gap? Not hard to have 1 to set to search for the thing, the other post, click back, run search, buyout. It would take an absolute perfect search to catch you...

How hard is it to ask a friend too post something to you at a huge amount and then transfer the funds back to you. I mean the reason you are doing this is to make a killing on the faction AH right. so what if you have a 15% surcharge if you are going to make 200% profit

Put it up for 60g, problem solved.
If for some reason a stupid sniper has his treshhold above that, just snipe your own item yourself.

People unwisely listing at 1c is how. You can sit there and spam the refresh button, listing cheapest first, and it will show the 1c items if you're timing is right, and then yeah, if you are on the ball, you could snipe it.

If you bury it down in the list, then yeah, they would have to know what price range was chosen to bury it down to list, or know what item is being posted to only show those, or a mod that shows everything that is listed outside of some preset, arbitrary range.

So, yes, the window is optimally very small, ~5 seconds at most, but there ya go.

There are ways of minimising the risk. Yours inst thought through properly. People shift thousands of items through the neutral ah, take the 15% hit and still make good profits. Ynless you have two accoynts running at the same time, then its all a bit slow.

  19. #19
You don't need different Bnet accounts btw.

Yes there is a 15% cut of sell price.

Yes, even with 2 accounts you still get sniped by players using automated addons. I lost a Blade Of Wizardry the other day, and I'm running 2 x accounts at the same time. In the time it took me to press 'Sell this item' and move my mouse over to the other account and press 'Buy this item' I was sniped.

There is a very nice guide on these forums by Sinshroud, covering this subject. I only wish I had taken heed of his advice instead of losing 5k worth of goods in 3 seconds.

Well, security never comes cheap. If you want to avoid the cost - you have to accept the risk.
The night is dark and full of terrors...
