This was all part of the plot of the very first Zelda game.
So we have now gone from oversimiplification to inserting random vulgarities.

    Is this progress?

Speaking solely from Ocarina of Time, Ganondorf has gone from just being an evil wizard in earlier games to being the ruler of a nomadic nation that has to live in the harsh desert. Resenting the Hylian kingdom for having better land he seeks power to lead his people to glory, but the power corrupts him and he winds up plunging the whole world into darkness, and that's just with the Triforce of Power. If he could get his hands on the other two Triforces there's no telling what he could accomplish but he sure wants to find out.

Not to mention only the power of the other two Triforces could stop him, so he has to deal with them anyway.

And it's adorable how you ignored everything I said about Metroid.

Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. You touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.

Sorry Pizzashark, reading through your ramblings, really sounds to me like you have no idea what you're talking about.

Every Faulkner book is obviously just a story of a random Southern person travelling or doing random Southern things. Every fantasy series is just some guys killing evil with swords. All shooters are random stories about war. Every villain is just some bad guy opposing a Mary Sue.

    Etc.

    Etc.

    Etc.
Shut the hell up about EA. Shut the hell up about Activision. Shut the hell up about pandas. Shut the hell up about the ME3 ending. Shut the hell up about DLC.

Think it's the same reason many people regard Final Fantasy 7 as the best Final Fantasy. It's not necessarily the best. It was just the most revolutionary for it's time. Hell before OOT all there really was on N64 was Quest 64 (which to all the haters actually wasn't too terribly bad lol)

Pure, unfiltered nostalgia. Notice how the most common words in explanations are "was" and "at the time." It's not 1998 anymore. If it is the best game, then compare it to other games besides other Zeldas; however, I never see this happen.

Are "was" and "at the time" wrong when people are talking about it's release?
Old games suck and can't compete/be recognized cause they're old!

It's a lot better than many newer games I've played, by that I mean, it's done more for the gaming industry than any other game I've played in recent years. I can't think of any on the top of my head that has revolutionized gaming and impacted it as much as OOT did.

Have other games implented what OOT did? Sure. So what? Can we not pay respects for the game that invented new things because "NEWER GAMES DO IT TODAY AND DO IT BETTER THAN A 1998 RELEASE."

And yes, I am talking outside of Zelda too.

You're looking at what's actually called judging it when it was relevant. In general, gaming's came miles, and when most people judge older games, age absolutely has to be considered. Mario 64 has shit controls by Mario Galaxy's standards, but guess what Mario Galaxy had to base its controls upon? Years of iteration. Every single subsequent version of Tetris has been infinitely superior to the last, but the original is considered the best GB game ever by a lot of people, while, for example, Tetris DS is just pretty good. You compare the game to its contemporaries. That's the whole point of reviews in general.

I don't get it myself. It doesn't even compare to a link to the past imho, but maybe it's just me? I mean sure it was ok, but over all I hated when Zelda went to 3d. HE BELONGS IN 8bit/16bit!

Eh, I feel exactly the opposite. I thought Link to the Past was "meh", even compared to the other 2D games. Not great, but not bad. Better than Zelda II anyway. I also didn't play it until recently, so that might have something to do with it.

I also think the 3D Zelda games are a lot better than the 2D, although I love both. 2D games, and the DS games, are still a lot of fun, but I started Zelda with Ocarina - it was the 3D games I fell in love with. If it had stayed in 2D, I wouldn't have been such a big Zelda fan.

Although perhaps not a fan favourite, I do consider Wind Waker to be one of the best Zelda games.

    OoT Was..interesting.
Majoras Mask, and Link to the Past were the best imo.
Link to the past>Majora's Mask>Windwalker>OoT for me. Personally I think the newer wii ones are the worst, but I don't like the wii's motion controls, personally.

If you haven't tried Skyward Sword yet I really recommend it. I didn't like OoT, TP, or MM and LttP was my favorite as well, and I'm really really enjoying SS.

It was the greatest game ever to those who played it when it came out. In terms of graphics, video games, movies and music this world is always changing. It would be understandable that todays kids that didnt play the game when it came out for the first time would think it mediocre but to the teens and adults now it was awesome.Today its MW in 10 years or more kids of today will be thinking what happened to the good games I used to play?
