Lawmakers are about to vote on bill that will make it illegal for any person to write a book, publish an article or speak in public about being gay, lesbian, bi or transgender. And this is just the beginning - if the law passes in St. Petersburg, officials have threatened to take it nationwide.

Activists in St. Petersburg are rushing to organize a public protest against the bill, but no matter where you are, you can stand with them. Not from Russia but I actually wish the law would be made everywhere. I have nothing against gays but I do have a problem with them "advertising their lifestyle" everywhere. Expecting to be treated equally and other people staying out of their bedrooms is one thing but running around on the streets, shouting that stuff into peoples ears, demanding the right to get married and adopt children etc. is completely unacceptable though.

They already have the same rights as anyone else but all the rest is just disgusting.

Gays don't have all the rights as everyone else, in some countries if you're known to be gay you can be executed, here in the US gays still can't get married in most states.

There is no proof that two gay people cannot raise a children properly. There is no evidence showing being gay is a disorder. Don't present your opinions as facts. It only makes you seem ignorant of the matter. If you want a straight parade, go do one. Chances no one will care because straight people aren't being oppressed for their sexuality.

I agree it should be the same rights but if marriage is a gov't thing then what they call it is what it goes by, as for religious marriages you can't say they can't get married then because certain religions are fine with that, so if a priest marries two guys guess what they get to say they're married. They should be able to adopt, why shouldn't they be able to? Give me some good reasons.

Homosexuality isn't a disorder. You don't see straight parades because they're in the vast majority and have nothing to take a stand about, it's like asking why there aren't white male 18-35 parades in the US.

The free speech in question is about sexuality. Its hard to not get into this topic without talking about the subject matter.

That's not entirely true. There should be no question that oppression of a minority is wrong. There may be people who disagree, but their disagreement is pure bigotry and ignorance and cannot be influenced by empathy or rationality. People coming into a thread like this stating "how horrible" homosexuality is are only attempting to do one thing: derail the thread and start a hate war. Countering their arguments (and in fact responding in any way other than reporting them) will allow them to achieve their goal.

You are no more likely to convince them that they are immoral for being so openly bigoted than they are of convincing you that you are immoral for being open minded. Arguments of that nature will always result in a stalemate (unless you're attempting to convince people that are undecided on the issue) so it's usually best not to engage in them at all.

A child needs 2 parents to grow up properly, not 2 dads or 2 moms. Of course this also applies to single parents but in all honesty, this shouldn't become normal and accepted. If there is no other way, like with biological children then fine but it's already becoming too messed up. Just look at the divorce rates and compare them to those from 20 years ago.
