Is it really worth rolling Republic?

My finger is poised over the subscribe button and I'm just trying to get a pro/con list for rolling Republic. I'm mainly a PvP person, but do enjoy PvE content on a 'casual' basis. I'm mainly looking at either re-rolling a Trooper/BH or Inq/Consular.

I don't want to contribute to the already imbalanced factions of the game, but I'm having a hard time seeing reasons for rolling Republic:

    Republic Pros:
-You get to experience more than just Huttball nearly all of the time.
-Trooper PvP gear at level cap might look better than BH gear (see below)
    -Less annoying dailies...(from anewok)
-Dailies are more or less working...(from anewok)

    Republic Cons:
-Lower populations on some servers may create grouping issues for PvE (??pure speculation on my part, tell me if I'm wrong??).
-More likely to experience PvP (see Gank Parties) on a PvP server as Republic (??also pure speculation, borrowed from xp with WoW??)
-Imp stories are mostly better written. Consular story is a snore-fest...like to the point that finding out what happened on Taris really was a high point.
-Inq looks better than Consular. They get cool looking, darker colored cloaks while Consulars get lighter colored cloaks (personal taste, I know).
-BH looks better than Trooper. For the most part that is...BH champion gear reminds me of Roberto from Futurama...

(not sure how to shrink that pic...sorry)

If I'm wrong on something or if there are Pros or Cons I haven't considered let me know and I'll add them here.

I find the current dailies for Republic to be less annoying than their Imp counterparts. Also, all the Republic dailies are more or less working, unlike the Imps with that broken one on Ilum.

edit: It also bothers me greatly the way the Malgus/New Empire thing is handled for Imps. The way I played my Sith Warrior (light side), it makes absolutely no sense for him to do anything other than join Malgus. I didnt have any such feelings with any of my Rep toons.

Roll on a good Republic server and you won't have grouping issues. And by good, I mean one that is at least 2:1 ratio, Empire:Republic. The Trooper story is very nice if you're into the whole army thing. It doesn't feel like Star Wars Online, but more like Starship Troopers Online.

    Roll Republic imo.
Why am I back here, I don't even play these games anymore

The problem with the internet is parallel to its greatest achievement: it has given the little man an outlet where he can be heard. Most of the time however, the little man is a little man because he is not worth hearing.

Personally I wouldn't base the decision of rolling republic on ''how the gear looks'', For me I would have to consider whether the class (Have I played the Imperial mirror?)
and the story would justify the time spent levelling. For me I have levelled an Imperial Agent(50), Sorcerer (33), Bounty Hunter (50) and I am currently levelling a Assassin (42) as I enjoyed the class more as an Assassin opposed to the Sorcerer.

However my opinion is biased as I've only played Imperials, but there is no way I would justify levelling a republic toon by saying ''Gee that level 50 armour is swell''.

Edit: Like OP I'm PvP focused.

Empress theta - I wish I saw more empire, its boring as hell running huttball all the time, and ilum is dead, no one goes there cept to farm armaments because there is NO pvp.

There is 1 group of empire people that actually do shit, but they only come as their group of 5 when only like 2-3 people are in ilum so they can rofl stomp the people, but the moment it gets even match they disappear.

I want to see the huge battles like on other servers, right now its all republic, and its boring doing stuff alone

Just find a decent pop server and almost all of these issues will melt away, save those the are tied to your personal taste.

The Jedi Knight story is worth it alone, it feels like that's the main story line, it's epic. I'm leveling my 3rd toon atm and while I enjoyed my Sith assassin story the same epicness just wasn't there.

As far as getting ganked as a Rep - I haven't experienced it yet through my leveling. I think I've actually had 2 world PvP encounters in 43 levels so far. Just finishing up Belsavis on Iron Citadel (US-East PvP). I can honestly count on 2 hands the number of Imp's I've seen across all the worlds, which really surprises me as I've been told the server is about 2:1 Imp:Rep and is always 'Heavy' during prime times.

My main is a Trooper and I enjoyed the story. I am also leveling a Jedi Knight at the moment, though only still on Coruscant.

From your comments about ganking parties, I'm assuming you will be wanting a PvP server. I play on a PvE server, so I don't have that problem. If you do enjoy warzones, one more pro to that is that the queues are almost instant for Republic.

I leveled 2 Consulars. I do not think the storyline is boring. In fact from what I've seen I like it better than the Sith counterpart which is really cliché.

I'm republic on an EU PvP server and i love it, where Empire do outnumber us on Ilum, putting together an Ops group and either firing people off the bridge near our western taxi point, or roaming round the middle or other areas enticing lonewolf empire towards us to gank is fun also. Consular story was good in my opinion, though it makes alot more sense playing it through as a Sage. Currently starting to level a Smuggler, and although i'm only level 12 (i think) his witty talk options, cool skills and the story itself is very fun imo. I have no intentions of rolling Empire in the near future.... even if you role Republic to feel alot more badass owning Empire when knowing your the underdog.

I have found it tough at times to get Normal dungeons on Luka Sene (which is PVE to be fair, but maxed pop) while levelling. No such issues on my Sorcerer.

Otherwise, I do love the republic but it's a definite drawback

From a PVE and economical standpoint Empire is better right now but it's a perpetual phenomenon. The less people are playing a faction the less people feel inclined to join it. That's how it has been in WoW pre-Bloodelves.

As far as stories go. In Beta my first character was a Consular and then a Trooper but I found out after trying an Empire character that Empire clicks better with me and it's not necessarily to be outright evil. My first character during after launch/ea-phase was an Operative with Light side affiliation aka I preferred talk and diplomatic solution, sparing people instead of just slitting their throats. The storytelling as a whole feels more alive with Empire.

Now on my Sentinel I found that I was more disenchanted by the low population levels in zones like Taris. We eventually made a 4-man party out of the 5 people who were in that zone at daytime (sunday, 14:00). My other character is a trooper which I like but the screwed and de-sync'd ability animations rather the killed all the fun to play for now. Overall back to the point of the storylines: neither the Sentinel nor the Consular storylines so far didn't really thrill me so far but maybe it will change later, however the Trooper one fairly intrigued me.

Overall I feel in terms of looks and conveyed "awesome" factor Empire just has the better trump cards for now and it is said that people don't care about looks and graphics, SW:TOR is the best proof against that thesis.

Pretty much what you said is the norm on my server.

As republic we win most WZ's, and the imps ships look much much cooler.

Other than that, what youve listed is pretty spot on.

Also BH animations make combat MUCH smoother than trooper. Roll each to level 10 and you will see what I mean.

I think the question you should be asking yourself is why not play both?

That's what I am doing. Playing mirrors of each other

Commando (Ranged DPS) - Powertech (Tanking)
Guardian (Tanking) - Maraduer (Melee DPS)
Scoundrel (Healing) - Sniper (Ranged DPS)
Shadow (Melee DPS) - Sorceror (Healing)

I switched and quite happy with it. Only story I like on the Imp side is IA and I'll keep that. I found the BH story blah, only leveled a Jugg to 20 and that was meh to that point for me.

I play a sage and to me the story does blow; however I am going light side - it would probably be more fun if I went dark. Im doing that now with my jedi. I like the rPub side because I enjoy the underdog side more. It is harder (pre50 at least) to get groups in non-peak hours; the AH isnt as full; however I win a lot more pvp matches (pugs) and get to enjoy all 3 maps.

My only complaint is losing all my credits (was feeling rich on the other side) but I know that will come easy once Im 50.
