Like said above, careful aim. If you using a training dumby to compare, well then, you are the dumby.

Go run a lfr and compare "your" logs between MM and SV.

Come back and tell me which one is higher.

I still play MM however because I hate SV, even though I do bigger numbers, but it doesn't matter because I don't raid seriously anymore.

Do me a favor and don't correct my spelling/grammar. I browse this site with a cell phone. Try harder next time to be an ass.

Honestly the mechanics of hunters (focus) + the talent trees (% chance of regaining focus, randomness of procs etc) make the workings of the class incredibly complex, due to this the only way you can realistically test your DPS is via an actual raid/dungeon (guild dungeon run so no random buff).

Simming will give you a basic answer but for hunters usually its completely wrong or pretty far off the mark due to the aforementioned randomness, which is why hunters have a simming website that deals solely with the hunter class due to the complexity and randomness, no offence meant to Zehera at all, I still use FD but with all things you have to take the results with a grain of salt.

To compare Survival and Marks builds I ran DS over 3 weeks as well as LFR (often multiple times a week) and found marksman to be better, however it occured to me that some of the DPS I was gaining from MM was simply due to the fact of familiarity with the spec. I'd raided as Survival throughout ICC and partly into first tier of Cata however had switched to MM for the majority of T1 all of T2 and the start of T3 cata so it had been a long while since id even touched my Surv spec (since id given up all PVP on my hunter due to how meh we are/were at the time).

This familiarity was by my estimation up to a 3-4k DPS gain on certain fights, its alot easier to get a rotation perfect in a spec youre familiar with. However once I started using survival for a couple of weeks during normal raids to the detriment of my DPS (dont worry I went to marks for progression bosses) I began to relearn the muscle memory and intricacies/randomness of the survival build and I noticed a steady increase in my DPS up to and after the buff surpassing marksman.

Probably the only boss I reckon I could definitely out dps myself as survival on as MM would be ultraxion. A stand and burn fight relies way too heavily on RNG for survival where as I can predict stuff better as MM + the better cooldowns. The other fights Id have Surv a little ahead especially add fights, with MM probably being 50/50 for 1-2 other bosses.

All 3 specs are basically comparable in DPS, especially with the 4pc and a 410+ weapon to allow MM to shine.

MM is showing lower than what it's really capable of doing since there's very very few still playing it, with most all of the skilled players using Survival. MM has been widely hated by Hunters for the expansion thus far due to ISS and has only been played for its far superior output. Now that there's another competitive option that's less clunky and simpler to execute, it's been largely deserted. MM has about as many parses logged on raidbots as BM does.
