Which DS crafting patterns you need

I took a look at the DS crafting patterns, as well rawr, askmrrobot, and maxdps sites. All three sites more-or-less agreed on the following:
-- all of the wrist-slot crafted items are very good, and
-- the leg-slot items are usually second to the T13 item, especially when 4-piece bonuses are considered.

To be a bit more specific:
-- To be "best in slot" as a plate-wearing tank, you will want both the crafted wrist and the crafted leg items.
-- To be "best in slot" as an enhancement shaman or restoration druid, you will want neither of the crafted items. Obviously they're still good, but other items (such as the Valor wrists) are considered better.
-- All other class/specs want the crafted wrists, but not the crafted legs (again, favoring T13)

My suggestion, therefore, to my fellow crafting professionals, is
-- buy every crafted arm recipe you see, except maybe the Bracers of Flowing Serenity, which are very niche being for boomkin only.
-- get only the plate tank legs unless you're a completionist or have a lot of cash to throw around.

Note: "best in slot" assumes you are not capable of doing Heroic Dragon Soul. If you are, the items that drop there are much stronger and the crafted items probably aren't what you want anymore.

I've never wondered why do people even bother with crafting or purchasing epics. I can understand at the start of an expansion but towards the end especially when people say that crafted gear is BiS. What big difference does a few secondary stat make? Infact with reforging the half the problem is pretty much alleviated. Even if you are a Heroic Progressing guild most of the crafted gear is pretty much moot as you are going to basically replace it in 2-3 weeks.

I understand if people have a ton of gold to throw around and drop it on a 30K-50K Leg piece or whatever, but it always amuses me. It is not like a few secondary stat is going to make or or break your attempt at a particular boss or even increase your DPS by 3K-4K.

Some people just take this game too seriously.

The patterns have plummetted in price on my server, going for 2-5k at the very best... with essences around the 1-2k mark depending on the current supply. No one is really buying the BoEs, I'm struggling to even sell them at the price of the mats

    Obviously..... server specific.

Well I think it is pretty obvious no one is going to throw away gold even though they may probably have enough on something that they are going to replace down the line. And what makes it even worse is on something that isn't going to make or break their game. I didn't even see too many people pick up the 378 BoEs during Firelands. The only people I knew that picked it up were the ones that had access to those Embers from their guild.

I wish i was in that guild where all the gear we all needed dropped every week.
    Shame it doesn't eh?
Some people prefer to do optimal instead of showing up half-geared because they are too cool to care.
