[Books] Do you read the same book more than once?

I've always been the type to read a book and pass it on to the next person. I am now reading Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy for the 3rd time. It is an amazing read. Is it strange to read a book more than once?

It's not strange at all to read the same books multiple times, I even know some people who read the same one over and over again and hardly ever buy a new book because they enjoy the ones they own so much already.

I reread occasionally, but only books that confused me in the past or ones with great depth. I, for example, don't see the point in rereading a John Grisham because there is nothing for me to learn from a second read.

    Definitely.

I have read Lord of the Rings nine times - and some of my other favorite books like The Stand or Pet Semetary I have read probably 4 times.

I've only read the same book a 2nd time on a couple of occasions. But I'm actually about to start reading some books over again mainly because I'm a cheap ass.

I will definitely read books over and over if they warrant it. There are a few classics I read over and over and few comfort series which I will also read again and again.

I often reread books I have already read. Though ussually there are years between readings. In fact atm I am rereading the whole Wheel of Time seris. I mean if you enjoyed a book what would be wrong about rereading it and visiting those charecters again?

only a few, for most books you lose the effect of suspense and it tends to not be as fun the second time around.

same sort of thing with movies. >.<

it has to be a REALLY good story.

    avatar relevant. sort of.

I read the whole entire Harry Potter series more than once
"Didn't we have some fun...though? Remember when the platform was sliding into the fire pit and I said 'Goodbye' and you were like 'No way' and then I was all 'We pretended we were going to murder you'......that was great"

    A lot.
Skelington has reread most of the books he has enjoyed. His highest is Paradise Lost at 4 or 5 times read(partially because it's rather difficult). A lot of H.P. Lovecraft short stories tie or come close to that. Maybe one is higher.

of course oO. why should i pay for something i could use/read several times and then only use it once?

pretty much every book i own i read at least twice. some much more often (harry potter, warhammer [40k], markus heitz, walter moers, hitchhikers guide etc).

but i mainly use the bocks for the "world" and creating stories, characters, battles etc while i read, reinterpreting passages, imagining new arcs, new branches of dialogues and so on. in this case books never get old.

I've reread some Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl before and The Hobbit ofc.

I feel like re-reading Ham on Rye again... it was for a class, yet it's an interesting book that I actually liked, which surprised me a lot since I don't enjoy reading books.

Absolutely. The vast majority of the books I count as my favorites are so because I am able to reread them from time to time. Even books that may be considered ruined by knowing the ending like Ender's game or the Dark Tower series I have reread and enjoyed.

I will say that comedy novels like HHGTTG or Christopher Moore's stuff (and if you are a fan of Douglas Adams I urge you to seek out Moore's books) are much easier to reread for me. I have probably reread all of them 5-6 times over the years.

    Sure.

I can't remember how many times I've read "The Hobbit." The number is pretty high.

The Hobbit 8+ Lord of the Rings 25+ Belgariad close to 40 times.

Yup. I really enjoy reading, and there are some that I've read to the point where I'm actually looking for a hardback version. For me it's no different then watching a movie you've seen. I tend to read for about half an hour to an hour a day, so it's financially practical to get some re-reads into the rotation. If I'm in the middle of a series and the newest book takes a while to release, I'll often re-read the series or the previous book right before it comes out.
