    Selling old PC games

I am cleaning out my storage unit and I came across a plastic tub full of old PC games. Games from like 2000-2010. Is it worth trying to sell these on eBay or just toss em in the trash? Most are complete boxes with cd keys and manuals.

Are the keys transferable to a new person or will it cause a problem when they go to play the game?

These games are so outdated, they can usually be bought from some of the distributors for next to nothing (like, $5 for Neverwinter Nights with all expansions). You can try selling them on e-bay for $1-$2 per game (maybe a bit more for games from 2006+), but I don't think people will prefer buying from some anonymous guy if they can purchase the same stuff officially for a couple more bucks.

Depends on the games though. Dragon Are: Origins you could sell for some money, I think, while Emperor: Battle for Dune - probably not.

If you're going to sell them, sell them as a big package bundle (unless you have any really popular games that could sell well stand alone). It's not worth the hassle in the slightest to sell a bunch of old games one by one on ebay and have none of them sell (and the ones that do sell you have to ship all over, costing most of the money you get from selling them).

Unfortunately, PC games market are not like Console games market. Final Fantasy cartridges for NES/SNES run from $40-$150. PC games on the other hand have little value, because 98% of them can just be downloaded. Unless it's a limited edition or collectors deal... They just don't have much value.

You can certainly try to sell it, or garage sale it.

Sadly, the other posters are right: Unless it's a collector's edition, PC games are pretty much worthless on the second hand market, seeing how has platforms such as Steam allow you to buy them for as low as 1$.

Opened up games for any game on most consoles aren't worth much, but in PC it's even worth less. You can just "pirate" those games, nobody is going to put in effort in buying something from ebay to play on PC.

Don't listen to those guys telling you not to bother, it COMPLETELY depends what the games are, what condition they're in and whether they have full box contents. Some games aren't worth much, some are highly collectible.

Yes even PC games, if you have the boxes.

Don't ever "throw them in the trash", unless by trash you mean donate them to a thrift store or something. There are tons of people out there that still want the original, non-digital, non-DRM tied copies of PC games (myself included) and there is always a market out there for them. In my personal experience the most sought after are PC games from before the 2000s, but if you have games that still have the CD keys (and are not used for one time online-activation) then you still have something worth trying to sell. Hell maybe even I would be interested in them, feel free to send me a private message with what you got and maybe I could toss out an offer for some of the more interesting ones that catch my eye (depending where you live of course and how you would ship them).

Wait 20 years and then the old games in boxes will become very collecteble. Same happened with Nes games.

I went through and looked up what I had on steam and ebay, most people were right and most could be found on Steam for $10 or less. Nothing was worth the hassle of trying to sell. Most were a ton of MMOs, almost all are f2p now or shut down, and some really bad games like casino and fishing games(don't judge me). A few good games gems like Mechwarrior 4, UR tourney 2003, and some racing sims, those I kept and reinstalled.

If you have Star Trek Elite Force I or II with a nice clean box (the cardboard box, sort of like the boxes that WoW comes in, not the plastic DVD covers) and the jewel case & cover art, I'll buy that from you.
Send me a private message of what you have. Can't guarantee I'll buy any of them, but there's a possibility.
