For utility there's nothing anywhere near as good as Engineering. I guess Alchemy would come second by a long way, but almost all the utility that the profession offers (different types of pots) can be bought from the AH. As you say Mixology enhances and extends the duration of that utility.

Honestly, Alchemy is not going to make much of a difference. I hear what you say about flexibility, but it's really a minor boost either way. Changing 80 stam to 80 strength is hardly what is going to make or break a solo attempt imho.

You should also consider, if you like soloing stuff, the fact that you could make a lot of money from selling mats from older content (like Greater Eternal Essence or WotlK dust or whatever) while Alchemy will bring you zilch money (or close to 0 anyway).

I would spend the 3-4 hours on trial attempts and not changing professions. Especially now that the only two sort of rare recipes (Zandalari exalted) are gone from the game.

You're looking for one of two things, versatility or power. Versatility you get with Enchanting and Alchemy, so you could always drop Engineering for that. For power, it's raw stats. an extra 20 stats is something that most strive to get.

Either way i see it, for what you're looking for, you should drop engineering.

And yes, you can change stats "on the fly" with enchanting. It typically just costs more.

You make a thread asking a common question, expect common answers. Honestly, the way you've disregarded the negatives put forward for Alchemy out of hand ''Yeah I don't care about maximum stats, sorry.'' makes me wonder why you even made the thread?

It certainly wasn't to take advice from people with other views or opinions anyway.

Like the guy that suggested BS'ing you probably didn't read what I actually posted.

I wasn't asking what the best profession was statwise, EVERYONE knows knows that it's BS if I just wanted the best stats DPS wise I wouldn't have made a thread.

    Same for you

Enchanting lets me chose between STA and STR, that isn't exactly flexible, alchemy gives me a lot more options like mastery/resistance that might be more useful for me.

Anyways as I already stated in post #11 of this thread, it's already done.

You can swap gems, which is what Blacksmithing gives you, by carrying gems on you. As such, with it giving the most statistical bonus (As well as allowing for multi-buff bonuses, such as Strength AND Hit, or Master, or Haste), Blacksmith wins out on both versatility, and strength to solo.

EDIT: Though, alchemy does give you the crazy potions that give health and mana...

No it doesn't, I can't get resistance boost and it would be stupid expensive to change gems like that.

To quote you from your first post:

"I don't care about how much it costs to level or how much money it will be able to make, I'm looking at it from a purely personal utility perspective, also I already have all professions on other chars."

If you -do not care- about how much it costs to make, then BS is the way to go. If you're looking for resistance, you're looking at a 20-50% boost to those resistances, which looks like a top of 25 resistance to any elixir/flask, though prismatic elixir could offer up to 50, which would be a sizable chunk.

It sounds to me like you care about how much things cost though. As such, Alchemy is the cheapest option with the most versatility. Wish the OP had mentioned it.
