I find it a lot more fun extorting gold out of people to sign their charters instead of filling their guild bank coffersIt's amazing how much some people will pay if they know you are around and unguilded but need that last signature.

I originally made my guild because I was tired of invite spam on my alts. We ended up turning into a real guild organically over the course of several expansions, but the initial motivation was just to get left alone. I had no desire to join a real guild on my alts but I was getting really frustrated with the constant ninja invites or whispers from guilds who just collect anyone who will join because they think quantity makes the guild. If you're in one of those guilds, you may not realise that many people want to level in peace and don't find being in a massive guild that is the social equivalent of trade to be appealing. A guild that will take anyone is not a guild I want to be apart of. If you're obnoxiously spamming low levels under the rationale of "why wouldn't they want to be in my guild," then you're definitely not the guild for me.

Its easy, i dont want to get to know any people playing world of warcraft.
Most people are
- drama queens (gtfo!)
- emos/depressed people just want to have sympathy (i dont want to hear how bad your live is)
- minors (school is out?)
- forever-alone-people (no i dont want to be your friend after one rnd heroic)
I have 5 reallife friends and we used to play WoW together (now LoL ^^). at the starting of cata we tried to make a 10-man raid guild but all people we find were really annoying so we decided to play alone rnd heros and BGs.
Im sure there are nice people playing WoW, but these people dont want to get to know me they have friends by themselves like me.
Some people just like to play alone at times its as simple as that, sometimes its just nice to log a character and chill without interacting with other people.
Some people might also be trying to do this. http://wowironman.com/
I have no idea about this either, it is just passive 10% exp bonus, 10% mounted speed bonus, 10% JP/HP bonus and many other perks, with no loss.
What comes to not wanting to socialise, you can just put guild chat off.
just saying... this makes no sense. if its your bank alt its already in a guild, and you wouldnt be getting whispers. or you just havent realized a bank alt is a gbank alt, and not just another toon with 7 bank slots.
OP: i have a couple toons not in guild. my rogues not guilded because theres not a single good pvp guild on my server, and i refuse to join in with KITTYMEWMEW when im doing 20kbs 2deaths 4flagcaps 2flagdefends in every bg.
You're playing petty semantics. A "bank alt" can -- and often does -- refer to a character whose bags and personal banks are used for storage. The term has never mandated that that character belong to a special bank guild and, in fact, existed long before guild banks were even implemented.

Because the only reason that these people invite you to their guild is because you'll be used to make money for the GB buy looting stuff, doing challenges, etc. I don't want to be used by random people who only think about themselves.
A guild should be a socialhub with people you chat with and you play the game with. For me anyway!
No downside? Are you kidding me?
The reason so many cannot be bothered with guilds with all these cutesy perks is how annoying your typical WoW player is, if they arent reciting old memes from 2007 and jokes from Reddit, they are gratzing one another on pointless achievements like Equip a Tabard, if they arent doing that they are acting racist/homophobic just cause its "lulzy" and talking about topics which they cannot grasp such as religion, finance, relationships, females in general. And last but surely not the least, many also display egos the size of cathedrals from Italy, my sister works as a stylist for a model agency and ive met some of those girls and they are humble peasants compared to some WoW players whose ego has gotten overblown.
Besides if you really want a authentic WoW experience, you turn off trade, general etc chats, no guilds and you just chill and do your thing. There is no point in lecturing these assclowns as you will get the trademarked "u mad bro lol?", you just opt out and chill.
And believe me, this game is still fun when you cut off and minimize the idiots that infest this game. I know plenty of people who simply play it as a single player game.
None of my 10 85's have a guild. I agree that the perks are nice, but once you hit 85 and are geared out, the faster jp and xp do not mean much. Really the only difference I notice is the run speed in lfd. Everybody with a high enough guild can run faster than me. Turns out I can match that with run speed enchants if I am so inclined.
I have the professions I enjoy maxed and some professions maxed multiple times for extra cd's, so no benefit there. My irl friends play on different servers so the realID system catches me on that end. I guess after all this I don't see the point in a guild? Beyond some superficial stuff like mounts there really isn't a reason for me to be interested in a guild.
I get on to play the game and be lost in the immersive environments while riding dragons and killing bad guys. If I am interested in schoolyard popularity contests, I don't really need a guild for that. If I decided I wanted to do a normal or hc raid, I can do that through forum-organized groups that have clear rules and a better vetting process than "this guy has been in guild a long time, his gear is meh, but its cool because he is a guildy."
The one thing I do miss on every toon~ Mass Resurrection. That's the most convenient perk a guild can offer me. But really, I have been playing this game for years now. I know how to get back into the dungeons through ghost running, it doesn't take long.
If anything, I would consider transferring my old alt guild to the server I am at now or levelling a new one myself. The bank tabs make for nice storage between toons.

Alts who don't want to have glevel 25 benefits, heirlooms et al. ruining the 1-60 experience.
Every time I get an unsolicited whisper/guild invite from some random person, I wish someone had invented a device that could kick people in the balls over the internet. I'd buy it.
Too true. All the people you truly want to get to know don't give you the time of day, even when you try to make friends with them. They already have the social circle they want. All the people so willing to add me to their realid or whatever are seriously messed up and make me uncomfortable as well. I am not devoid of sympathy and emphathy but they are often rude, ignore me or go on about how bad their life is all the time instead of trying to fix it. I am constantly like their online therapist or something...
i dont like to hear all the useless babbling in green on every char
