[Movies] Good horror film?

I really like your input on this thread, and I completely agree with you. I often times have trouble being immersed in films and pretending I'm there. I REALLY enjoyed The Descent, but it wasn't all that scary to me. And with Paranormal, I feel it didn't help that they had that VERY bassy sound before everything scary happened, it kind of ruined a lot of the scares because you were kind of like "Well, here comes something."

Was this the 1987 one, or the 2011 one? Because if it's the latter, you absolutely need to watch the former.

It was the 1987 version, I have yet to see the 2011 one.

The initial 35-45 minutes of Insiduous was really good but then the ending spoilt it for me with the demon painted in bright red and the exorcism crap. The ending twist was also fairly well done. And the old lady on the steps O GOD. The lack of typical gore and gimmicks kept it fresh too. O i just remembered the red demon also looks like darth maul from the crappy new star wars.

It's a flawed gem, if they got rid of the bright red goat demon, polished the exorcism stuff and had slightly better CGI, it would have been a classic. Rose Byrne was good but somehow I felt Patrick Wilson didn't suit the part that well.

Yeah, that's exactly what I think. The first half of Insidious is brilliant - it slowly builds up the creepy atmosphere, takes its time to suck you into the story... It also includes one of the greatest scenes in horror movies I have ever seen - the seance, where the old lady looks into the spirit world. And then, suddenly, it turns into a completely different movie, one that feels like a cheap "Pan's Labyrinth" knockoff. It's almost like they run out of ideas half way through the script, so they stitched it together with another movie they were working on. It's a shame, really, the first half is sooo good.

Honestly? Most people (me too) consider paranormal activity as one of the most horrific movies out there. Don't know how you watch movies, either with lights on and people around you or just while playing/doing something else. Maybe you just want to show off, doesn't matter.

OT: Event Horizon is one of my favourite, I watched that movie when I was a teenager, (I'm 24 now) and it scared me very good, Blairwitch project 1 is pretty nice, too.

But personally I think you just gonna say "what a sissy movies" because you are so cool and aren't afraid of anything, however, these are the ones with the most horror potential.

Event Horizon is one of the sickest movies ever made. im also 24 and also first watched it a long time ago. it scares me every time though!

but paranormal activity is pretty boring, i didnt like it.

So I just finished Insidious (the first Ju On isn't on instant stream on Netflix, trying to knock those out first) and I have to agree, the first half and the ending was really quite good, got a few jumps out of me as well. They Darth Maul Demon kind of ruined it though :\ On to The Machinist! (this has been on my list for a while , but when I wanted to watch it my girlfriend at the time decided to watch an anime...lol)

Ju on is pretty good, definitely watch that. I thought Ringu/The Ring was better but Ju-on is quite scary too. There's something about J-horror that really gets under your skin since the antagonists are just so different.
