    Iphone 4 Jailbreak

    Hello folks.

I was just wondering is it alright to ask for help here on MMO-champ about Iphone 4 jailbreak? I know piracy isn't allowed and this is also one of those controversial topics. And since this is somewhat computer related I figured I'd post it here on the computer forums.

Jailbreaking your own phone is perfectly fine in the USA (other than voiding your warranty, of course).

In Europe and UK it's more complicated, but still seems legal.

So I don't see what would be the issue, really.
But why would you ask here? There are many places that will give you better answers than mmo-c.

There are many legitimate reasons to jailbreak your iPhone/Android. It allows you full root access to your own device instead of being crippled by random restrictions.

I doubt that it is within the code of conduct to allow talk about hacking devices such as your PS3, PSP, etc... Most forums I visit prefer to just avoid the subject altogether, although I can't say that I've ever seen someone talk about software hacking their devices on MMO-Champion so I can't really say.

Yes, but isn't Jailbreak related to the software that players use to hack their PS3? I'm not sure if it is actually illegal, but like I said, most forums I visit just prefer to avoid the subject altogether.

But regardless, you could probably find more accurate information on a site dedicated to hosting the software.

It's similar, yes. I have no doubt it's illegal in the US where laws in this area are bought and paid for by the entertainment industry, but in the free world you can do whatever you want to your own device.

You could have, at least, read the first reply to the thread.

Jailbreaking IPhones is perfectly legal in the US.

It's been through court a number of times, and the conclusion is that it's your own damn device and no one else's. Jailbreaking your own device is perfectly legal, because it's your item that you chose to "break".

However, while legal I wouldn't be surprised to hear it voiding the warranty, etc.

Actually DMCA, the bill that gave you the freedom of access will be up in congress soon. Being how dependable congress has been lately about getting things like the budget passed you might be disappointed when the bill fails to be reapplied. Companies like Apple and Sony would love for it fail.

    Sure about that?

The U.S. Copyright Office's ruling making iPhone jailbreaking legal doesn't really matter, as long as the process voids the warranty of your smartphone. Apple reminded customers in a statement to Cult Of Mac that jailbreaking their iPhones voids the device's warranty, which means no free repairs if your phone goes bust because of that.

"Apple's goal has always been to insure that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone and we know that jailbreaking can severely degrade the experience.

"As we've said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably," the company said in reply to Monday's ruling.

I think the appropriate question is:
"Why do the GOOD gamer girls hide the fact that they're female? And why do the horrible gamer girls promote the fact that they're female in any situation regardless of how off topic or relevant it is?"

I'm re-opening this. Jailbreaking is not illegal nor piracy. It does, however, void your Apple warranty.

if you restore your Iphone to factory defaults after jailbreaking, you can take it to apple and they will be none the wiser, while not ethical, its quite common and happens all the time, thus it's difficult to the point of impractical for apple to void your warranty,

and i believe there is legislation in some areas that will make it illegal for a company to void warranties for jailbreaking, as there is no real profit or product loss due to a bad jailbreak, if you brick your iphone or psp, apple or sony can fix it with an external flash
