I want to make a new DPS toon. Trying to figure out what class is easy to gear/does top dps in raids.

Hunter, equivalent dps to legendary casters now they got buffs, easy to learn and very easy to gear up, grab a bunch of shaman/hunter buddies and go into LFR and clean up all the loot, protector is usually pretty rare in raids.
The ancient egyptians got boils, locusts, and frogs. We got dubstep.
Go hunter, easy to gear and good dps!

Indeed, good player will do good on any class.
combat is lower than the other 2 rogue specs in dragon soul on fights you have only 1 or more than 3 targets.
sub wins the single target race(when you can backstab)
assas wins when more than 3.
combat only wins if you can cleave a damg taken debuf or if 2 mobs ( and exactaly 2).
Well at least on my server there is lack of good warlocks. Level warlock and learn to play that class and you should be able to get raiding spot easy.
I like my DK for good DPS, it is in fact the class I do best on as DPS, but pick a class you enjoy really.
It's still breathtakingly simple compared to what, say, Destro / Demo locks have to do in order to do good dps.
People go on about how faceroll Arcane is, but Fire isn't really much harder - you have one dot which you can actively apply, which is an instant cast anyway. Keep that dot up (but don't clip it). Spam fireball over and over again. Smash your fist onto your pyroblast button when your UI lights up with a hotstreak proc. Rinse and Repeat. The only thing which makes it even remotely more interesting is Combustion, but that's less of an interesting mechanic and more of a "press it whenever you see a massive crit" mechanic - hardly more taxing than an arc mage just bashing their "LOL CDs" macro.
AoE requires a couple more buttons, but even then it's not like the crazy concert pianist level finger dexterity required by a demo lock to do max AE damage - they have got loads of shit to press very fast if they really want to go mad. Firemage AoE is mostly multi dotting without any of the finesse as they can reapply their dots to all targets instantly anyway whenever they get an impact proc. It's hardly rocket science, and certainly FAR easier than the majority of other DPS classes out there.
Either rogue or mage.
Warrior can be good option if you don't like rogue but still want melee.
I would not recommend any other caster but mage because its unlikely that you will be able to do competitive dps with anything but mage without legendary.
Your worst options will be feral cat druid and elem/enh shamans, followed by retri paladins and locks.
Its not like its not possible to perform well with above classes, but no matter how good you play with your class, even if you will rank world top1 with your class, you will always do 10-15-30% less dps than top mages and rogues on the same bosses.

Picking a new toon based on what is good right now is silly. Pick something that interests you or that you think you'll have fun with. By the time you hit 85 and gear up who knows what class will be fotm? Even if it is still the one you rolled another patch down the line will change that so just play what you want.
