    Fraps problem after 64bit client

Hi after i got the 64bit client wow my fraps clips is freezing/spiky, i have no lag when i am recording, but when im watching them they are all spiky and freezy.

anyone got this problem too? or knows how to fix?

    Cheers /actiwe

Are you using Fraps 3.4.7? It has 64-bit support. Also are you recording onto a different harddrive from where the game is installed or the same? This can also cause "recording lag". Also the resolution at which you are recording greatly affects the smoothness, so perhaps a 720p resolution can help.

Are you watching the clip completly unrendered? (straight from recording to watching)

The problem is the media player cannot read everything quick enough to play smoothly. Once rendered the video will be smooth.

You can try and minimise the problem by using a different media player (vlc player for example) but I'd expect the video to stutter still, until rendered.

    Thanks for reply guys.

I do have 3.4.7 version and yes i record on the same harddrive as wow is on, tried to record to a external HD but it is laggy like you said.

Sast: I'm using VLC already, and this wasnt a problem before the 64bit client ( it didnt lag when i watched unrendered clips before )

Using 64-bit probably increased the performance/video quality, meaning you won't be able to watch it back unrendered. The only thing I suggest is to render the video and try again.

Edit - As mentioned earlier, recording onto a separate HDD is highly recommended, it can put huge strain on a single HDD to read and write at the same time at such high stress levels. It won't break anything, it'll just make your playing experience a lot less enjoyable. But you say you don't have any fps issues while recording so I wouldn't worry about that. A seperate HDD will only improve recording, not playback.

64 bit won't increase the quality of raw video

Well, it'll allow WoW to use more memory, which in turn will allow more memory to be spread across various programs, so in a way, it will.

I'll try render a few clips in vegas and see how it looks, havent done that. I'll come back with results

Okay guys, just rendered a clip and it was not laggy/spiky now! Should have tested that before i started this thread.

So it's only my unrendered clips that is laggy/spiky now after the 64bit client!

eh, no, memory has nothing to do with it, the quality of the raw footage is based off of the source is was recorded from, in either 30 or 60 fps variants

the only advantage i can see to using 64 bit fraps is possibly the ability to hold more in RAM, and write to files larger then 3.75GB

but it has no effect on quality, unless you cant maintain 30 fps while recording, but thats not a 32/64bit issue

If he can run at a solid 30 fps, then indeed the extra ram will have no effect, personally I run at 60 fps full size so the 64bit client works wonders for my recording experience.

64 bit fraps? I don't think he was on about using a 64bit variant of fraps, he was talking about the 64bit client for WoW.

Back on topic, rendering the video will stop the spiking/lagging. I can't watch my videos back either, until they are rendered.

Edit - Just saw your reply OP, glad the rendering fixed it. It's not ideal but there's not a lot you can do about it i'm afraid.

if he is talking about the raw clips not playing smooth that is because the files are a bit too large for a standard video player, and is common for fraps files to do this, and there is nothing wrong

also, with later versions of fraps, recording in a 64bit game switches fraps to 64 bit mode

If I understand this correctly, 64 bit WoW is back out and able to be used? Last I heard they said that it wasn't working properly or something.

Yup, which is why rendering the video will fix it.

I have had issues with fraps on the 64 bit client as well. It has tiny spikes in game while recording for me and also has a kinda sluggish feel to it. The play backs are also spikey. If I load up the 32 bit client to run fraps though it is smooth as butter and I can't even tell I am recording.

    3.4.7 to 1TB 7200 storage drive.

Still have not been able to tell what the issue is but if I want to record something I just load 32 for now.

Well, if the problem didn't exist with the 32-bit client and is happening now with the 64-bit client, and the only thing that changed was the client, then that's pretty obviously the issue. You could switch back to 32-bit until that issue gets sorted out.
