Front Page Start Time Poll - True or False?

Referring the poll on the front page, saying that 60% of people that had voted that they started playing WoW during vanilla.

For the people that lie about starting since vanilla, especially those who claim to be in the beta. Since people playing since vanilla is some how cool.

You know there is nothing wrong with starting later. I started playing during wrath there is nothing wrong with that, and anyone who says other wise needs to get their head out of their ass.

60% of posters who post on MMO Champion and chose to participate in the poll, not 60% of 10 million players.

do you know how many wow players don't even know what a forum is

Then surely that is the fault of the voters, and not that of the site?

I don't think anyone claimed that the poll was scientific.

Calm down, we all know that 42.57% of people on the internet are liars.

Well it is the forum-goers, NOT the actual subscribers. That said...I have to agree. I find it unlikely that that many of the MMOC posters started in classic WoW (I started in Wrath, myself, the week LFD came out), but people tend to think "oh classic status" and check it.

Stay on topic and refrain from being jerks in this thread

Exactly. People need to remember that the number of people who read forums like MMO-C, much less participate is a fraction of the wow poplulation. Polls here reflect the subset of people -here- who care to vote in polls. It wouldn't suprise me, btw, if 60% of the people who participate here played in classic. Then again, it wouldn't suprise me if people weren't honest when they voted.

The sample is probably a bit skewed here - I think most people who check mmo-champ regularly are maybe a tiny bit more into the game than your average player, and as such have maybe been playing it for longer? Maybe?

the polls are not claiming to be for the whole sub base, its only meant to get information of the mmo-c users, though it seems its very inaccurate.

I started on Vanilla-Release Europe, missed the beta... Dammit! I feel so worthless... =(

Why is it hard to believe that 50k people play since vanilla? 50k people are nothing compared to the whole of the wow community, and prolly only a small percentage of mmo-champ/curse users.

And I voted too, so just it goes up a bit, fyl (only to compare, in my guild there are about 80% vanilla players, even in my 10s raid there are 6 people that raid with me since vanilla)

I played in vanilla, I got to about 50 or so on my rogue. I still chose BC because that's when I REALLY started playing the game and experiencing raiding and what not. I don't give a shit if someone played in vanilla or not, it doesn't make you special. You are assuming that the entire playerbase was in that poll, which obviously it is not so it may be accurate.

The goal isn't too prove you played in classic. The poll is rather skewed, especially considering the poster base that is either unsubscribed and live to grief those who still are, or those who think that playing in classic is some amazing badge of achievement.

Right now the number of people who claimed they started in vanilla only equals out to 0.495% of the total population of wow. Doesn't seem that many.

    PS. I started in vanilla.

I have been playing since Vanilla (Feb 2005) and I voted truthfully. I just recently made a new account on MMO since I forgot my old one. I do not understand the nature of this thread. Why does it bother you if someone 'lies' about when they started? That's how statistics go; I am a psychology major and many surveys are botched since not everyone is honest. You can only hope for as much honesty as possible.

Lol. Busted. I actually edited my post, but I didn't change the point I was making. And I agree with you. The problem comes when someone looks at a poll and forgets that it's only valid for the subset of the wow population that participate here.

And since people are saying it. I started in classic too. Bristia on Kir Tor. For a frame of reference, I was able to run Strat and Scholo as 10man, but it was shortly after I started running it that it changed to 5 man.

I doubt there are 10 milion different people checking mmo-champion every day , and all voting on a poll. Also , only 83k people voted , that is less than 1% of the total player base , and no , you don't need to be from vanilla to be good , you need to have a brain and need to do some research etc if you want higher things.

Also , i voted for vanilla , my prove that i have: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/characte...3%A9l/advanced. (left this char sideways with cata )

    PS. I started in vanilla.

but according to the poll about 60% of people on mmo-c started in classic, i find that hard to believe
