Recovering data off an external hard drive

My previous laptop took a dive and I had a back up of everything on a 500gb seagate external hard drive. I have a new laptop now and went to plug it in to try and get my files back and I can't quite figure out how to do it. It doesn't have any issues connecting, but I can't seem to find a way to access the files. If it matters I used the external on a macbook pro, and I'm plugging it into laptop with windows 7. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Mac uses a different file system than Windows. It has been a while but this utility has worked for me in the past

The drive has a HFS + partition most likely and the PC will not see the partition. You will need another Mac to access the drive and get the data off of the drive.

Thanks, I'll try that program out and hopefully it works and I won't have to find another mac to use.
