Heartseeker appears to be good damage even above 66% HP. The only reason Leaping Death Blossom would do more damage is because of the bleed and the fact that it's AoE.
So obviously LPD is *better* above 66%, but after that Heartseeker appears to be the go-to for single-target. It also costs 1 less initiative (until traits anyways).

Holy sheet! I wasn't expecting Thief to be THIS much fun!
But I has a question... am I doing something wrong not being able to equip a shortbow? I'm out of combat and it just won't equip it no matter how many times I select "equip." In that off chance its a bug, and not me missing something obvious, I've already reported it, but was wondering if you guys had any clue.

Anyone find any cool looking daggers or shortbows yet?
iv seen some badass longbows and 2hand swords. i found 1 dagger that didnt look like the rest but it had +9 healing
Oh yeah, I checked that too. In fact, I had it equip when I first got it and leveled it to where I had all 5 skills available. Then I switched out wpns to work on my pistols some more, was running towards an escort with 123456789 people doing it, so I figured I should put on my shortbow for some extra AE hurt. But, it wouldn't equip.

After trying Necromancer, Engineer, Mesmer, and Thief, I can say for sure I'm having by far the most fun with Thief and will likely make it my main come release. Its Short Bow is so amazing I hardly want to use anything else, although for melee I like dual dagger or sword + dagger as well. Didn't like any of the pistol combinations that much, compared to Short Bow.
My only complaint about Thief: too few weapon choices. When I first touched Elementalist, I felt almost overwhelmed by comparison. I was like "I have to level 20 skills for each weapon?!"
WTB off-hand Sword. WTB "hidden blade" when nothing is equipped in off-hand. WTB additional weapon types that aren't yet in the game (fist weapons!)
I also don't think it's that unusual for a thief to make use of maces or axes. They may not be the most stealthy weapons, but I've noticed that thief and "swashbuckler" tend to go hand in hand (hence the pistols)... and, well... it's all in the wrist.

Longbow I can understand. Longbow is kind've a... "soldier" weapon. The longbow, after all, was first introduced by the English, and they were typically fired by soldiers in large formations (think: Arrows blotting out the sun).
Thieves are sneaky and meant to get up-close and personal anyways, though I do agree it's odd we don't have a "sniper" set-up.
Dammit, now that I've thought about sniping, I DO want the longbow and the rifle. :|

Potential balance problem: Because of the way the cluster bomb projectile works, it's extremely effective to go into melee range with it and just mash 2 constantly.

So guys, how're you liking your thieves so far? I'm having a blast honestly, but there's one ability that really disappointed me. Cloak and Dagger. On paper it seems amazing, I even built my thief around stealth, but in reality I find it very hard to land it. The cast time seems really unnecessary with this ability. And if you miss, that's 5 initiative out the door. Maybe I'm just being noobish/doing it wrong, we'll see.
Everything else I'm in love with though.
We told you people it's not very effective... and when you cast it in stealth you put a GIANT neon sign over your location for people like me to then throw a torch in your face and pelt your burning mass with all sorts of fun goodies!! And i can't even count how many times i've had someone try that C&D thing in PVP it was hilariously fun killing them...
PS: It's confirmed that when birds fly from the heavens to eat your face i can just follow my precious little carnivorous avians to your exact location =D!! So, don't fuck up with your heavy stealth builds you silly thieves!!
Thieves are fun as hell, but they're REALLY fast-paced. You have to be constantly on the move or you'll be squished like a bug. We deal a lot of damage, but we take just as much, if we're not very careful.

Still torn between guardian and thief leaning towards thief for shortbow gameplay alone it's so much fun, but my guardian is godlike in I've I take like no damage but I also can't dish it out as fast ugh this will be a hard choice come release
I ended up playing Thief more than Guardian this beta. Such an incredible profession, super fun to play around with.
I tried the thief for some beta footage I got and I was surprised how much I liked it. Moving in and out of combat and kiting enemies, it was pretty refreshing compared to how other games handle thieves/rogues. I'm not sure if I like most of their weapon options though...there's always a skill or two that I just don't really like, but it's probably that I just haven't gotten used to it.
I'm having a hard time justifying any other weapon besides dual pistol though, with bow as my weapon swap for aoe. Just solid damage, nice control, and an on-demand target-able blink/stealth. Am I just missing something about the other weapon combos?
So, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but you're torn between two classes on the opposite spectrum of what I'm going to call the "glass cannon" spectrum.
Basically: Thief does intense damage, but also takes intense damage. His survival is primarily about proper positioning and high mobility. The Guardian is pretty much the opposite. While they can focus on damage, the profession as a whole is VERY sturdy, without dealing damage nearly as intense as other professions.
Maybe you'd be happy with something more in-between?
