[SPOILERS] Revan's fate after the Foundry Encounter

There were countless topics made on official swtor forums with people arguing over this - main concerns were whether Revan fell to the dark side or remained more kind of "grey jedi" and whether he survived the Foundry flashpoint and used force ability called: "Fold Space". These are all rumors of course, nothing confirmed BUT...

Let me give you a link to short interview that focuses on lore related questions:

Drew Karpyshyn - say whatever you want about him, but this man is a legend. The lead writer of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and
Mass Effect 1. And of course the creator of Revan character. Also, an author of what I consider one of the greatest Star Wars books to be ever released - Darth Bane: Path of Destruction.

For three years he was working on Star Wars: The Old Republic, continuously contributing to it's storyline. Most recently he wrote an amazing novel called simply: "Revan". While according to me and many other fans it was a great read, some people reacted rather negatively to it and had very controversial opinions about the whole plot. Well, De gustibus non est disputandum.

Anyway, recently Drew retired from BioWare in order to be able to focus more on his own projects and to spend more time... golfing. Was his decision forunate or not that remains to be seen but as Drew put it: "However, I feel that’s an essential step for every creative artist to take at some point. It keeps us fresh, it keeps us energized."

You can share your personal view on this matter in the question poll.

Overall, Drew is a really nice guy (at least from what I hear, tbh I don't even personally know him ). But it seems that this opinion about him is rather accurate, because not many writers spend their free time answering theirs fans emails (and even those nasty ones written by haters!).

I emailed Drew Karpyshyn recently and asked him a few questions mainly related to lore (and I also got an answer to the ones related to Revan's final fate and his possible reappearance in the future!), so here you go, enjoy this exclusive set of Q&A:

Hello, first of all I would like to say that I am huge fan of your books and games (KotOR series, Bane trilogy, Revan novel - you make SW lore even greater than it already is!).
I just recently finished SW:TOR (or rather completed my first character's storyline) and I have few questions and it would be great if you could find some time to answer them.
All right, so here it goes:

Q: Did Revan really fall to the dark side again? How come he wants to commit genocide and exterminate the whole race? And how is that possible that Republic is supporting him in doing so - it's against all principles that the jedi believe in. And there are jedi aboard the foundry, along with republic troops.
A: Revan always walked on the edge of light and dark, and being corrupted by the Emperor's presence for 300 years did push him over in that direction. However, that doesn't mean he can't be redeemed again later - remember, you never see him die; he just vanishes. We left that door open on purpose.

Q: After the Foundry encounter, Revan speaks the same line as Malak did during his demise on the Starforge. Is this some sort of homage to Malak or? If yes, it kind of confirms that he fell to the Dark Side.
A: It's more of an homage than proof of anything.

Q: Is there a chance that you will ever write another book related to Revan? For example about his childhood, how Kreia/Arren Kae found him and how he became a jedi. It would be great to find out more about him. We know that he came from the outer rim and that Revan was in fact not his real name (it was revealed in TOR: "Revan - it is not my real name, it never was, but it will do).
A: Nothing planned right now, but you never know what the future holds.

So, what do you think happened to him? :>

I hope he will be back because if not - they messed up his story. -,-

The rule of and fantasy/sci fi is if you don't see his corpse/head taken from his body, he's probably not dead (and even then, there's a chance he isn't).

the foundry was merely a set back lol i see him being a end game raid boss at some point if not that you will see him again in the game to important of a lore character to not show up again

IMO as awsome of a FP as Foundry is, it just doesn't seem all that great of an ending for Revan, especially after you consider all the work to free him in Maelstrom Prison. Its sorta like, ok, group of people bust in and free him, he hides over here, and now he's dead. I really hope they expand on him more, I mean, even HK-47 got a return.

I feel he will come back or at the very least we will get some info on him via quests in future updates. The odd apology to Malak (atleast thats how I understood it) could lead to some very neat stuff in the future.

after doing Boarding Party and The Foundry first.... it seemed so disappointing. I mean even after time has passed for Revan and HK-47 to go down like chumps to some random Empire group that easily? seemed rather lame. I'm glad they left speculation up.

now playing a Jedi Knight, Maelstrom Prison seemed much more exciting even though it appears to happen first. Revan seemed like he'd be a bro to my jedi knight, and ready to help kick some Empire ass. he had some information that would really help the Jedi Council. could learn some interesting stuff....

then yeah back to Foundry where all the effort The Republic goes to .... vanishes in a crappy way.

if he does return it should be to help the republic in the a major way and not just as some wimpy flashpoint boss.

I'm sure he will come back. You don't give a character his own game, book, and two flashpoints, and an entire quest line, just to kill him off in a mid level flashpoint.

The force is strong in Revan. I do not suspect for an instant we have the seen the last of him or the hunter killer droid. Hell they resurrected onyxia 3 or 4 times, they can bring back Revan once or twice

If you listen to the quest lines at the end of the foundry it seems clear to me that we have not seen the last of HK.

Not sure if joking... but HK-47 is in False Emperor too. Also in patch 1.3 we are supposed to be able to get our own HK-51 companion.

You don't need to do Battle before False Emperor. It's not really a surprise either, as much as any boss is a surprise. He's just there.

Thought someone had told me you had to, cant find a group for either so not that it matters much class is taking up alot of time atm. A boss can be a suprise though like the first time you run let us say magisters terrace (different game but same principal) if you do not know much going in the last boss could be a shock to some.

When I saw how Revan's story ended and read spoilers on the novel, I had a fit. Then I just said screw it. If Drew wanted Revan's story to end that way, that was his business. Revan's his character and thus his to do with as he pleases. I don't have to agree with it and I certainly don't. I refused to buy or even read the book. I'd rather toy with my personal fanfic for Revan instead of what was officially released. But when I did Foundary and saw for myself he just vanishes at the end leaving no body, it led me to wonder if there was more planned for him. Personally, I just hope he doesn't end up a raid boss. I'm tired of that from WoW. He obviously dies since he's not around during the movies ... unless by some funky twist he's Palpatine or something. O.o I just hope Revan's story ends well. Doesn't have to be happy. Anything is better than the ending he has currently.

I was kind of expecting a pissed Bastila to show up in front of Revan and the two would have a chat. What you did during the conversation would either result in them finding peace with each other or the two ending up further apart. Was also expecting him to have a scene with Satele and maybe her son Theron. >.> Would've been nice to see at least some interaction with all of the old KotOR characters like Bastila, Carth, Canderous, Mission, etc and maybe even some of the KotOR II ones like Atton Rand, Visas Mar, etc. They could have us find a mysterious part somewhere that turns out to be a part of the Ebon Hawk or T3-M4. A long (and optional) quest chain that's preferably soloable or at least restricted to 4-mans if there is any group content to rebuild perhaps both the Ebon Hawk and T3-M4. The major reward at the end could be a new companion (T3-M4) and the Ebon Hawk as a new ship for the players. Doing so would let us see more of the lore behind Revan as well as what happened to those he knew after KotOR ended. Not everyone reads the books or comics, and the books don't contain everything.

I'm still curious what happened to Dustil Onasi. Kid was supposed to die on Korriban in KotOR II but got removed at the last minute. So did he still die there or does he live a long life? Also curious as to why he was training to be a sith, but Carth showed no force ability. Was his mother force sensitive or was Carth? Throwing in a quest chain to chase down details on Revan can let Bioware finally close loose ends on the other KotOR characters. Maybe part of chasing down the parts for T3-M4 and the Ebon Hawk leads us to descendants of the KotOR I and II characters.

There's a lot Bioware can do concerning the KotOR I stories at least. I know Bioware didn't do KotOR II but that didn't stop them from putting in the Exile (Meetra Surik). So hopefully they expand more into everything and ultimately leads to a better ending overall for Revan. KotOR II really got the short end of the stick so that really needs to get closure at least. If people think SWTOR is lacking, KotOR II shipped without a real ending and a lot of side stories cut like what happened to Bao-Dur and HK-51. After playing KotOR II, I can't complain about SWTOR lacking anything. At least SWTOR gets more added in patches. You want more for KotOR II, you have to go with fan created mods that may not be canon.

Don't get me wrong, the first time I played Maelstrom prison and got to free Revan it was a surprise, cause I didn't read any spoilers and such. But then when I did foundry you're constantly talking to him, and with what I knew from MP it was like "ok, going to fight Revan," and HK-47 coming out there was a decent surprise. But when you fight him in False Emperor he's just basically there

Sounds good my guild has basically died and in process of getting invited to a rather active guild so hopefully I will see those and the ops soon enough.

You could loot his corpse in beta :P

I find it hard to believe a game based around the actions of Revan, 200 years after Revan lost control of keeping the emperor from attaking the republic...waiting SO long since the first game JUST to see what happened or to play Revan again, with such an amazing lore and backstory... to be dead. Idk.
