I cheated and told my friend to sign me up using his 2-3 year old computer specs.

No MMO before WoW had more than around 450k at its peak, which was EQ. Games like Asherons Call and Dark Ages of Camelot had even less, and I'd consider all 3 of those to be successful, and all three of these games are still running ~10 years later.

When you don't have a hundred servers you don't need millions of players to fill them. As long as they can make a profit and there's enough players to enjoy the game with, it's successful IMO.

Just read today about DAoC and it seems really failed. They managed to grab 100k and now they have less then 5k players. I wouldn't want GW2 to be that unsuccessful. Only amazing player on this field is wow, and success/unsuccess is measured by how close another MMO to it. Honestly I didnt even know those games you named existed, and personaly I couldn't really care less about them.

It has very few players now, but it was still successful.

Your last sentence just says you haven't been around long enough to know about them. Where do you think GW2 got the idea for WvWvW? DAoCs Realm vs realm v realm.

Both good and bad news!
Good because it means the support for this game is huge already.
Bad because it means my chances of getting to help with the beta are miniscule.

Kinda angry were at the 49th hour of the "48 hours only" beta signup period, and they haven't closed it down yet, because they want better numbers to give to the media.

thanks for making everyone who signed up in the right amount of time's chances THAT MUCH LOWER.

also, they should only allow one signup per IP address. ppl who sign up 6-7 times should just all automatically be denied beta access.

Ye I know it. In fact thats why I checked what DAoC is. But I didn't even know about those games existance until I learned about GW2 =) I think successful ones are not those who invent something new and have a poor implementation, but those who can expand and good implement those new things. Well this is a part of wow success in my opinion aswell, and thats why so much people follow it.
