Yeah too true. Which is doubly weird since it's one of the hottest places in the damn country and generally huge heat + computers = nono.

I cringe every time I think about the AC bills these people must have.

By doing it better than Blizzard. Remember, these guys came up with the original Battle.net, and have been building on that tech.

Distance is actually a fairly minor factor in latency, imo. I know people from Hawaii who can connect to US servers with less lag than me.

It's a very big factor in latency. But it can be lessened if the technology is good. I'm praying it is.

I was doing just fine until you just mentioned them.

I'm still of the opinion that it's because of Dell (though technically it's based in Round Rock) that IT is such a big thing in Austin. IIRC, UT Austin is supposed to have one of the best CS departments in the nation. That's part of why I was going there... though obviously things didn't go according to plan.

Supposedly, AT&T and Dell are the two biggest non-oil companies in the Austin, Texas area.
