    Ventrilo server hosting

If I open a ventrilo server and want it to be up pretty much 24/7, is it only my router that has to be on 24/7?
And also, does hosting a ventrilo server take alot of your internet capacitity?
    Thanks in advance.
When I want to log out, where's the save button? I can't find it anywhere, been logged in for three years now.

    You need:

A static IP address (or a router that works with dyndns)
Knowledge on how to configure firewall rules

if you want to connect to a domain name instead of your static IP:
you need a domain, knowledge on how to created DNS records

+ You can only have 8 ppl on a selfhosted Vent Server

    edit:

    found some numbers on Speex
    Speex (32 KHz, 16 bit, 10 Qlty) 5520 bytes/sec

You could always just use Teamspeak 3, Register for a NPL (Non Profit License) and get a free 512 Slot team speak and host it off your computer.

Your server that's actually hosting ventrilo obviously has to be up 24/7.

Depends on the quality of the codec and the number of people on the server. But in general yes, it takes a non-trivial amount of capacity, in particular outbound capacity which tends to be low in consumer connections.

Instead of vent, you should really look into Mumbe which is open source and you don't need to run a hacked server.
