Worked for pretty sloppy computer company in the uk ("Tiny Computers") back when I was at uni. A bunch of folks who wouldn't ever really progress in life struggling violently away from learning anything about their products.

Had a trainee manager in store who basically managed to trash 4 of the display computers getting a sale and wanted me to get things off the printer 2 metres from him while I was the other side of the shop tidying up his mess. I got the push.

Second time was over punctuality. Luckily karma was onside. I left about the 20th novemeber, paid on the 27th for october, paid on the 21st decemeber for november, went to south africa for a holiday (already paid for) on the 17th Jan, paid on the 27th January the months notice I was due, returned on the 5th feb, started my current job on 70% more pay on the 6th
They actually knew I was leaving but in being determined to get the boot in before I left effectively gave me 2 months off with full pay over Christmas and a holiday at the end of it ready for my new job It was a blue chip who have since died a death in the UK due to being sucky so apart from the folks there most of whom I got on well with, good riddance.

I had a cleaning job for ~3 years. It was a dentist's office consisting of 4 rooms and a waiting room. Basically I just threw out the trash, vacuum cleaned, dusted off shelves, stuff like that, it took 1-2 hours a day.

Sometime during the autumn of 2011, boss called me one Thursday and said "I got a family friend to do your job, i am sorry but you don't work for me starting next Monday". Three days of warning after 3 years of work, and then I had no job.

Nope, but I've been depromoted from one, which was fair because I wasn't suited for the position they offered me at the start, only worked for the company for 3-4 months or so anyways, it was just a job I took up in a transition period.
The nerve is called the "nerve of awareness". You cant dissect it. Its a current that runs up the center of your spine. I dont know if any of you have sat down, crossed your legs, smoked DMT, and watch what happens... but what happens to me is this big thing goes RRRRRRRRRAAAAAWWW! up my spine and flashes in my brain... well apparently thats whats going to happen if I do this stuff...

Why to fire people? Well, because you can get better ones. Every time you fire someone, you will never get anyone as bad as the one who you fired. At least I'm trying not to do the same mistake twice.

Also staying on the same job for 5+ years makes people lazy. And you can't really motivate them with money, no matter how much you pay them and how often you promote them they always stay lazy, because they are not afraid of anything any more, they think that they can be on this job forever. Good reason to fire them. And make others work better in fear of losing their job as well.
Speaking as someone with managerial experience now, are you for real? Scare people into working? You just end up with high staff turnover and people not wanting to work for you. Treat employees well (without letting them take the piss) and they'll work hard and work well.

Never fired, lay offs due to work shortages alot, just now again. Don't like your job just get out of it, don't do poorwork it'll only get you a bad reference.

Well, this system is pretty efficient. We provide service of better quality than average on market, our employees earn significantly more than average on market. We don't fire random people once per month. But if we think that if someone is underperforming compared to others we replace him. It allows us to work more efficiently and earn more money in the end.
A lot of big companies(and blizzard as well) have real problems with incompetent employees that are unable to do their job properly. A lot of big companies have a lot of workers who don't do any real work, but just waste company resources like budget and workspace.
Sometimes its hard to say "Hey, Joe, I know that your worked for us for 10 years, but that guy we hired 3 month ago does the same work as you do 3 times more efficient as fast, he also is more educated and smarter than you". Actually you will never say that, but something more tactful instead. But if you want to keep your company alive, sometimes you have to do that.

Experience is worth more than paper qualifications. Any employer with their salt knows that. You don't drop someone who's been at a company for 10 years because someone 3 months in is working harder. I'm not questioning the service your company provides - fear can of course be a powerful motivator - but it's rarely the right one. I'm also not saying you shouldn't lay off incompetant employees but you have problems if your incompetant employees manage 10 years with you. Rolling layoffs are not the answer here. More competant management is, and an improved hiring process.

i got fired because they found someone, who would to it for less money.

and the moral of the story is, never fire that one guy that knows that you have not graduated highschool and got a fake doctor title and are commiting tax fraud...
What are you going to do? Stand behind a tank and massage their back to give them courage?

Yup, only a few months ago and all. Was 17 at the time and still am. Worked at a toy shop for 3 weeks at minimum wage then they fired me. It was my first firing and I felt really sad but I'm over it now that I finally got them to pay me my wages. They withheld it for 2 and a half months! They only gave in when the court date was getting closer (we decided to sue, I was basically cheap labourt to them and then they didn't want to pay me at all!) and since then I will always avoid that toy shop.....

Started work part time at Iceland (its a food store in England) when i was at college, ended up going full time there and lasted 9 years till i got the sack.

In those 9 years i had 7 managers and 11 deputy managers, some better then the others and i worked my way up from a dogsbody to acting duty manager and keyholder. The last one though was a complete twat with no people skills and barely any managerial skill either. This fool had trained in my store for 3 months as a deputy before getting sent elsewhere and nobody liked him.

Anyway the reason i was sacked was because 'i was being disruptive to staff morale' when all i was doing was stating who was doing what wrong and when, (through the right channels too) but apparently i was the trouble maker. (people taking extra long lunches holding others up, coming in late, not doing their job right etc)

Yeah ok, if voicing your opinion is 'being disruptive' then i wonder what he would have said if i shat on the staffroom table...

I hated that fool and told him so when he fired me. Told him who was really causing disruption in the store as i left and that if he didn't sort it things would only get worse as he was a fuckwit.

One month after, my friend who still worked there rang me up giggling like crazy. He said that the manager was fired as the store was still underperforming and the 'problems' were still not fixed with me gone. Turns out that the REAL reason for me being fired was the manager crying to the area manager that a certain worker was causing trouble and he needed a way to get rid of them (me) before the store could prosper.

Yeah well, i warned the twat when he fired me what would happen if he didn't address what i told him and it cost him HIS job.

Justice served to a deserving cunt.

Had about 5 jobs and have never been fired. I was made redundant once and the rest I quit.
The redundancy is a bit fishy, I may of been fired but I did get severance pay. I am a 3D artist and I worked for this small brands company who wanted some corporate videos. The MD was a known dick and had the habit of firing people even on the slightest hint of under performing. I lasted for two years and was known as a senior member of staff! He was also known of taking coke and sending emails in the middle of the night to his employees having a go about work. I got a few of these one night and stood my ground but politely calmly responded while he raged.
He refused to acknowledged my existence for two weeks and pretended to be busy while I was looking for my next assignment. I think he expected me to quit or slack and open a reason for termination. But I got my letter of redundancy and got my redundancy pay 3 weeks before Christmas.
It was my first job in the 3D field and I am glad I had it. I was incredibly under payed but I made that up by lying how long certain 3D sections would take while I played wow at work.

Got fired wrongfully from one job.

Was a card shop in the city centre aka birthday cards gifts etc and about a week after it had opened officially i arrive to be told that stock had to be taken in by hand from the back and brought around and through another arcade nearly half a mile down the road and then back up coz the manager had lost the back door key .by myself btw.so needless to say the order was 45 boxes of what amounts to paper doesnt sound like much till you try lift a box of paper trust me it adds up .

So needless to say while hefting this in i slipt on a set of metal stairs and proceeded to use my spine as a surf board and my lungs as a cushion for the stock i carried .well after laying on teh ground for 20 minutes the store next door to us noticed me and called an ambulance etc .So i was taken to hospital with what amounted to severe trauma to my spinal column and 2 broken ribs and discharged 3 days later .

Turns out that the store was unaware of this and assumed i had jsut walked off so fired me .needless to say i got onto al solicitor and after a hefty payout and apology left them .the manager somehow got the order in laters when he found the key too.didnt stop them going out of business anyhows .
