    1st of March - Mărțișor

So in my country there's a sort of festival on the 1st of March called Mărțișor . On this day men usually give little tokens to women tied with a red and white string.
You can read about it here.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C4%83r%C5%A3i%C5%9For

So, without further adding from me, a virtual martisor for all the girls and women of MMO Champion

First question, i quote wikipedia "Mărțișor (Romanian pronunciation: [mərtsiʃor]) is an old Romanian celebration at the beginning of spring, on March the 1st." and the OP said in his country so the answer is kinda obvious.
And for the second question I quote OP "On this day men usually give little tokens to women tied with a red and white string."
Little bit more reading and all answers are answered.

So I assume Romania doesn't have many feminists? This is the kinda thing those *bleets* go crazy about...
Why am I back here, I don't even play these games anymore

The problem with the internet is parallel to its greatest achievement: it has given the little man an outlet where he can be heard. Most of the time however, the little man is a little man because he is not worth hearing.

I mowed the lawns this morning, sun was out - glorious.

And, hordes of ladybirds whizzing around trying to shag each toher - largest orgy I saw today was 5.

Spring is here, well nearly - soon all the kids will dance around the Maypole in my local town (which is basically representative of a giant phallus, heralding the season of fertility and all that jazz).

It snowed here. My front yard is very small, and my backyard if full of dried giant weed trees that I cut but never got the time to get out until snow came covered by 1 meter of snow. Spring is here!

It's a tradition, it's a nice gesture. I don't see why someone would jump over this. But women give martisoare to other women too, so it's not all men=> women. If someone would feel this is something bad, all they had to do is give martisoare to males, it's not such a big deal.

Well, soon enough yes About time too, as much as I like winter, this was a very cold winter and snow was only there last month, so little.

So referring to whomever said this is what feminists might have a problem with, I found out in Bukovina ladies give men martisoare too.

I wish we'd gotten some of that cold weather this winter. I think it was 70ish Fahrenheit 21ish Celsius most of the winter here.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Too bad that the german Wikipedia says that Moldavian people celebrate this Rite too (and bulgarian with slightly other spelling)...
In some countries only Female gets presents on Valentines Day for example... In germany its more likely that Guys gift presents to their Girls.. only fewer girls give their Boys a present (too). I was just corious and want to understand his tradition ebit better. So i would ask you to stop lecturing me. Thank you.

haha, no, the trinkets are tied with strings, women aren't tied with anything Although it's common to take the red and white string from the trinket and tie it either to your wrist or to a blossoming plant.

That sounds bad... I don't like places that are hot all year. I'll take my snow and be off with it, thank you very much

Well the german Wiki is right then. The Moldavian Republic is a former part of Romania, around 18?? there was a war between the Ottoman Empire and the Russian Empire, the Russian Empire was doing ok, but they were also attacked by Napoleon so they thought to end the war fast to not fight on two fronts so they told the Ottomans they can end the war if they give them Bassarabia. The ottomans didn't know about Napoleon, and they felt they were losing, so they agreed (although Bassarabia belonged to Moldavia, but Moldavia was a client state to the Ottoman Empire). Anyway, lots of romanian people remained there, and in 1918, Bassarabia reunited with Romania forming (along Transylvania and Bukovina) Grand Romania. Grand Romania existed till 1940 when URSS wanted Bassarabia back, and they took it alongside with northern Bukovina. After the war they kept both. They deported a large part of romanians and tried to replace them with russians (which is why now there's the Transnistrian problem) but in 1991-2 when URSS fell, the Moldavian Republic declared independence. So overall they celebrate this because they're romanians as well, but they were so indoctrinated by communists to belive they're not it's sad. As an example, our language to theirs is like UK english to american english, so only a few words difference and maybe a few different words. Yet their call their language moldavian, to us it feels like an american would say they speak american instead of english.

Bulgaria also has a special thing, the festival went there as well through different ways, from our friendship between wars (during wars we always seemed to be on different sides) to the Cadrilater, a place took by Romania after the 1912-1914 wars of the Balkans that Bulgaria took back in 1940. The festival is also encountered, although less, in Serbia, especially in Voievodinja... or was, since the number of romanians there decreased a lot and now there's very few left.
