Drow is very strong after her changes and is extremely easy to play. Riki... well, in most pubs invisibility = invincibility. He's still strong at higher levels of play, especially once he finishes his Diffusal.

I hear this all the time, but I cant remember the last time people actively didnt buy anti-invis items, and Im pretty sure Im bad enough to play in relatively low skilled games. maybe its different in US, I dont know, I play EU west and east, but there is dust and wards in almost all games with invis heroes, regardless if our team or the opponents have one and I play invis decently enough, Nyx is my top pick ever since they brought him to dota2 and gondar isnt far behind, so i figure out pretty quickly they have wards when i try to jump those supports and they melt me coz they were baiting me

People mostly buy consumables for invisible heroes in my games but friend of mine who's new in DotA and playing in low MMR. I can, without a doubt, say that I haven't seen any truesight consumable in any of his games. He tends to pick rikimaru a lot.

I go entire games without true sight all the time, I'm pretty sure its a pub thing and not a MMR thing. Even good players can be too "lazy" to buy dust/sentries in public games.

I usually base my true sight purchase off how well the individual hero is doing... unless its riki then I get a gem asap.

Have more than a single AoE nuke across an entire team.

Winrates say far less than a rating system would.

I meant as a solo player, I cant exactly force my random team to pick what I want.

    CALCULATION FACTORS
The only factors considered in determining the change in your rating is match outcome and skill difference between players. "

They are definitely not the smartest bunch. Oh well, people really need to understand that these systems only work for ranking teams in certain games or in 1v1 SC2, but alas people need to jack off to their e-peens in every game...

I agree, I can't wait to see how horrible the system is at judging people.

You can rate "optimal play" for each role. This will generate a rating that is reliable to a certain degree but there is no way you can calculate skill levels in pubs.

Win rate is not a good way to judge skill, but a rating based on wins alone is probably the best system you can wish for (however bad that may or may not be.) Any attempt to weight additional statistics into the equation will increase the inaccuracy by a lot. I doubt there is any reasonable way to take KDA or GPM into account, even if you could detect when players are playing support or hard carry there's still a hundred things messing with the statistic.

And I'm not saying ratings are ever accurate or that they could not be completely wrong, nor do I support the system, but still after having played HoN with multiple accounts all I can say the difference between playing in games with very different MMR range was pretty easy to notice.

I think there was a possibility that viewing other people's rating would require you to pay for their premium service, which I doubt that many players will do. And there was also talk of the possibility to set your rating as private if you login to their site. But that's just rumours at this point.
