I get that taking direct shots at each other without the slightest hint of subtlety is getting popular now that Sony did it to MS, but I didn't know that it could be done with such an INSANE amount of "I'm butthurt!" being the ultimate message.
They have the nerve to make an advert like that when nVidia's 3 fastest cards hold the best performance in ALL the "Gaming Evolved" titles listed there, and Crossfire is still fucked until July 31st, at which point it will finally catch up to SLI.

I'm not against AMD but it's hard to support a company when they make an advert where one can only sigh at the whole we're-so-butthurt vibe coming out of it. I can't see any other way to interpret smashing up an nVidia card with a sledgehammer in front of everyone to see.

Kind of a dick move there amd. You're not exactly kicking Nvidia's ass in any department other than maaaaaybe price/performance.

and lol at his showing a 7970.

Talking shit about 2010 cards and then they give the guy a card from january 2012.

I don't get that vibe from the video. I get plenty of that vibe from people annoyed by the video, though.
It's humour and people are taking it too seriously.

Also, no one* runs SLI/Crossfire anyway, it doesn't matter.

HD7970 is from Dec 2011, fwiw, and I would not really call them behind. It took nVidia until their second architecture-iteration to get past them. Again

No, he was talking about games optimized for 2010 cards.

    I thought it was funny.

    Are you sure?

According to several sources, AMD’s upcoming high-end graphics card, the Radeon HD 7970 will be launched on January 9, 2012 and will be priced just over 500 euros or USD $550.

I wasn't really saying they were behind either. Its just so neck and neck and which card is better basically depends on what game you're talking about. If you're going to start smashing other cards you should at least make sure you're winning by a big enough margin to have the 'right' to talk big.

Meh, since when does comercials need to be 100% correct in all ways and indisputable? "Best" gets thrown around a whole lot.
Besides, their sales are industry leading now iirc. That's got to count for something. It differs on country and store slightly, though.

You're probably right. It's like a child, the more attention you give it, the worse it gets.

At the same time, AMD made this. Not some blinded AMD fanboy or blinded nVidia-hater, but AMD themselves. It's really hard to dismiss it as a "everything here is a joke, we were all trollin' yo! It's supposed to be funny, laugh with us pls!".

    *shrug*

Sony showing used games working and showing their console's "strengths" without actually referring to MS/XBone at all, that was humor.

AMD spouting a ton of bullshit and then smashing an nVidia card with a sledgehammer...what kind of humor is this? I guess different people find different things funny *shrug*
I guess it's the "kid who goes around kicking girls in the shins and throwing shit at windows" kind of humor. Really, really low-level.

    Oh well, moving along.

Well, I can agree with that. Would I have authorised this in this, hm, subtle and non-blatant form if I was in charge at AMD? No.
They are going a bit far yes.

But humour differs. I mean, apparently people find The Hangover a good movie, while it's (literally, and no I don't mean figuratively) the worst 55.000 USD+ budget movie I have ever seen.

It's alright to be stupid in your own bubble.

Trying to make someone ELSE look stupid (under a "it's all a joke" notion) is even stupider

I'd have to say AMD also has the upper hand in the sense that at least their drivers don't crash all the freaking time like Forceware has been lately.

I haven't had my GPU's driver crash in literally months.

Shocking, especially considering whose computer it is, isn't it? :P

    You.

And maybe me if the 250 Euro price of a second WF 7950 sticks long enough for me to have the money to spend on one and if the 13.7 driver actually fixes the frame latency issue.
