    acceptable CPU temperatures?

So.. I'm tweaking my new rig (I5 2500K on a ASRock ext 3 Gen 3)

    Currently overclocking to 4.2 ghz.

Where should the temps be during play?
I was hitting the test dummy for around 5-7 minutes steady...highest I saw was 33c...is that high?...low?
    ...good?...bad?

What temperature would qualify as dangerously hot?

Any feedback would be appreciated...and thanks

    P.S....it idles at around 26c

If its under 60, you should be fine

Download Prime95, run blend test. After 20 minutes, it shouldn't go higher than 75C, and that's pushing it. 26C is very low. Are you in a cold room?

For Sandy Bridge and other Intel CPUs, don't be worried till around 75-80 Celsius.

personal choice but i like my prime95 to not break 70* which puts wow at around 55 max temp.

70 degrees is not really an issue at all, to be fair.

Any CPU should be capable of reaching 90 degrees celcius without catching fire out of the blue. Though when it does go beyond 85 degrees you should seriously look after some cooling gear upgrades. 70 degrees for heavy load is very acceptable and nothing to be worried about.

Good PC parts can withstand up to 95 Celcius without instant damage. However, as a general rule, the cooler your stuff works, the higher the chances they will last longer.

Anything 85c and below is fine. Intel cpu's can take over 100c. Idk why people say OMG 60c!!! -.-

Download CPUID, it'll have some info for you. I'll say your temperatures are fine but if you plan to clock higher, be weary of high strain for when you're actually using less idle cycles and more actives. This will give you an idea of if your clocking is too high under pressure.

Sadly AMD's SOI Architecture isn't as enduring with temperatures as Intel. Sandybridge has a THERMAL SHUTOFF of 98C and a THERMAL THROTTLE(Meaning it drops the clock speeds/voltage to lower temps) of 92-98C. Anything below this is a perfectly acceptable temperature seeing as Intel sets these BEFORE damage is capable of occurring.

People like to see temperatures around 70celcius as it wouldn't do reduce life by much, just because it can not bust at 90 doesn't mean should run it at those temperatures as can reduce life. When trying to kill my old pentium duel-core max I got it I believe was 85 or 95 and it began throttling sadly.

Running the CPU in general reduces the life of it. Any form of current going through the power gates lowers its life. By the time any modern CPU's die, they will be BEYOND obsolete.

It depends on the temperature sensor.

Intel states that Tjunction or core temp can reach 100C, but in general it's a good practice to keep them under 75C as someone said earlier. It's not the end of the world if a synthetic load test like Prime95 or IBT peg your cores at 80C, but don't do that 24/7. These are the temps that utilities like Real Temp and Core Temp read.

For Tcase or the temperature measured at the heatspreader, Intel states a max of 72.6C. This is what many utilities from mainboard manufacturers will read. You generally want to keep that temp under 65C or so.

the acceptable is 70-75, usually over this temperature you have to care about cooling it down.
