Moving and my new city only has Dial up and satellite.

I am the GM of a fun guild that raides at peak times on Tues and Thurs nights and I dont want to lose that. I am also one of the tanks.

This being said, I am moving to the country for due to upgrades in my number of family units and I would love to still be competitive in my role as tank and not be relegated to farming mats and fishing to help out the guild while they get to raid. From what I can tell they have no 4g coverage from Verizon (current phone provider), we will be using Direct TV for our dish, and we will have dial up connection only I believe.

What are my options? I need help in a bad way cause I dont want to have to go on a shooting spree from lack of panda...

Thanks for any suggestions at all!

Dialup simply is not going to work whatsoever, not even for farming/fishing. You won't be able to connect past the character select screen. Satellite internet also will be unusable due to 1k+ latency. The distance from the ground into orbit and back to the ground again make it mathematically impossible to get pings lower than that. However, here's a few options:

    1. T1 1.5/1.5 business connection - $250-$800~ per month

These are available anywhere in the country that has hard lined telephone lines. Contact your local telco in your new area for information.

    2. wISP - $60-$100~ per month

Many random middle of no where towns have wireless towers setup to distribute internet. Without knowing where you're moving though, it's hard to tell. Try googling "new town name here - WISP"

    3. If Verizon isn't offering 4G, I'm sure Sprint or AT&T is. However, WATCH OUT FOR CAPS. Almost all of them include 5-10GB per month caps with massive overages.

    4. If there's no 4G, there's bound to be at least 3G EVDO from either sprint or Verizon. These connections net you 1.5/0.5~ pipes.

    5. Check if Clearwire is available in your area for unlimited* 4G service which comes with a wireless modem/router. - http://www.clear.com/

Hi and I do wish you luck. I am running internet on Satellite (lovingly called NASA in game) and yes... during peak time it does suck! I also do run on dial up but only for baby alts and faming with the big guys. I just have to make sure I do not park my toons in the big cities of the game. Where I live in the country there is no dsl, or whisp, or any wireless like 3G or 4G. LOL Even my cell phone drops signals all the time... best for me to only text on cell phone. I do hope those suggestions work out for you since they have not for me. But I am patient, phone company says they should have dsl out to me in 3 to 6 months. Not sure if they will make it before the expansion. But even with *NASA* when off peak time I can still play with a lat running around 16k. I just work with it in my guild and do runs when lat is around 16 or 17K when the real big guns in guild are running them. They like me so the put up with my lat. LOL

is it possible to play off of a 4g phone competitively if I account for minor latency timing stuff through swing timers and what not?

also I looked up Wisp in waverly hall and I found Hughes. Is this something I should look into? I just dont know much about all of this stuff as I have always had a cable modem and not had to worry about it. Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

What's the zip code where you're moving? I'm getting conflicting results depending on which one of the two towns you've mentioned.

Having used to raid with satellite internet back in wrath, do anything but that. I was lucky to get 1k ms latency at times.

3g is more than good enough to raid with, it's what I currently use now.

I think there are 4g or 3g phones that are able to make a wireless hotspot? I hardly know ANYTHING about phones, also I probably shouldn't be trying to help your problem here, but maybe you could look into a phone that can make a hotspot? I would suggest a good provider that covers your spot well!

Sorry if i'm re-posting a reply that already exists... I just don't know much about some of the things I've seen in these replies to know enough about what is being said lol...

Well, I will only be in this spot for about 2 months and Verizon doesnt have 4g coverage where I will be living. And I dont want to swap providers for that short of an amount of time.

Astralli says he raids with 3g coverage. I have an iPhone. I use Verizon. Is this doable by me?
