Good to hear. I'm sure it may not work for some, but rerolling will probably save a lot of time and frustration for anyone playing on a "lighter" server and unhappy about it. It may be months before EA opens up server transfers, and who knows if they'll try charging extra for them or not. So if its a major problem for you then it would be better to get it over with now than risk the issue souring your enjoyment of the rest of the game.

I believe others have mentioned rolling an alt first and leveling that when you are not tied up with your main. Its a pretty short trip to fifty so before you know it you could be capped out again.

Please stop rolling empire on The Fatman. Last night had 300 on fleet and 112 on fleet(2). Chat was filled with barrens chat x10.

    Its nuts.

It's potentially one of the biggest issues in the game - if so many people can't do anything because they're spread out over so many servers, people will get bored of having to wait around so long to do anything. After midnight, until 9 or 10am, it's almost impossible to even have a Warzone game on Niman as Republic any more. Even during peak times, my queue times are over 10 minutes.

This, as an issue, is something that has a relatively simple solution, merging half or even 1/3 of the servers into others would be a huge improvement for a lot of people. I really hope they start acknowledging that there is a population issue soon, and that they start doing something about it.
I had to reroll, but coming later to the game my highest level toon was 30 and I didn't even belong to the guild. Its still a major pain to reroll and do all the same quests and all the same stuff over again and I wasn't nearly as far along as you are. I couldn't imagine being in your shoes with that amount of time invested (and all your friends on the server you're already on) and be forced to take BW's advice and re-roll if you want to enjoy all facets of the game (or just not take an hour to for a FB group). You definitely have my sympathies.

I wonder how they aren't seeing this as a problem myself. There has been a new thread about this issue every single day on their official forums...but at the same time people complaining about these problems are met with pages of responses what include:
"There are 200 people on fleet on my server, therefore the problem doesn't doesn't exist."
"I prefer to play alone so I don't see what the problem is. I don't want a bunch of people going after the same quest items as me."

    I agree completely.

However, think about this logically. What are they to do and how should they go about doing it?

Can you get a server transfer for your beloved SWTOR character yet? The answer is "no, you can not". The reason for this is they do not have the systems in place to allow you to do so. So imagine trying to merge two or three servers together - it just isn't going to happen, at least not in a short to medium time frame anyway.

The ONLY option you have in getting off of your server is to reroll. Period. So you are really stuck between a rock and a hard place when considering the plus' and minus'...

For if you can not stomach rerolling, like me, then fine, don't, it is your choice. Just be prepared that more and more people will leave the very poor populated servers and you will eventually find yourself gaming by yourself, or with a the same small pool of players who like you are not budging.

Or reroll - Yes, the leveling, crafting, gearing up will be a major pain in the backside, however if you like the game enough and want to be doing operations and lot's of hardmodes/PvP then this is your only choice. This really is the lesser of two evils on offer.

    Sad but true.

Everyday I think about reactivating because I'm bored but then I remember how terrible EA is when it comes to balancing (knee jerk nerfs / mandatory biochem) and that I'd need to reroll on a populated server without my 10million credits.

They are making the rest of the crafting professions worth it in 1.2, and STATED they will be working in the idea of Biochem not having reusable stims in the future. But about the population issues I do agree. If you're stuck on an unpopulated server (like my own), you can either bare with it or move to a new server. I frankly don't mind because I am in an extremely good guild so I guess I lucked out. I'm hoping that subscription numbers start going up and more people start playing. Think about it. If server transfers were open- EVERYONE would be going to Fatman or any other heavy/full server. So we'd have 1 server with like a 3 hour queue and a bunch of servers with hardly anyone on it. It would suck even more.

At least you're on Imperial. On my server we'd be down 3:1 in numbers every time in Illim, just so disheartening.

Given how they still block Chinese IP's from their login sever, kind of glad to see the game stutter and hopefully start to decline.

And they do this on purpose because they dont want China's dirty money right? You do know that its all politics and working a deal to get the game through the bs red tape right? Do you really believe they dont want money from Chinese players?

Biotech will be far from mandatory and there has been a lot of activity due to the free weekends. Im sure we will see some converts and a uptick in server pops not to mention those returning and buying in for 1.2. that should help some.

What they don't want are Chinese virtual sweat shops messing up server economies and hacking people's accounts. I don't blame them. I wouldn't be too surprised if the Chinese Government weren't throwing up barriers to entry if EA doesn't add some censorship for some hot button issues like people setting themselves on fire in Tibet.

Why would China work so hard against such a small game? SWTOR isn't worth the effort honestly. It's a blip. The only foreign MMO to ever (EVER) have issues was WoW, and ONLY with the Chinese version. Read: China doesn't give a shit about games not in mandardin who don't have servers based in China. Get your head out of your arse.

As stated above, they specifically block Chinese connections to their login server (easily bypassed by anyone with a brain). Knowing EA they assumed the Chinese had never mastered the art of a proxy. Then again EA has never been that smart, and SWTOR's release was proof of that (sweet end game guys).

I guess the risk wasn't worth the reward.

ps: Really glad there's population issues.

Wow, time to make an alt on your server. At peak on rakata mind prison realm - we have like 100-130 on Imp. fleet and then leveling planets probably have anywhere from 5-30 people on them. Even with 125 people on imp. fleet near impossible to get a HM or regular FP going. It's really kinda sad - it's just people tat want to play the game and can't. I am personall one of those that isn't for an LFD tool, but then again i got to play swtor when getting a group manually took 5 minutes, for a FP or for heroic questing... now not so much. An hour can go by looking for more and never finding them. Quests forget about it, either bring someone or you'll never get a group. I think now they absolutely need a LFD tool - just to keep people playing.
    @ iggie above me -

PS - wow, DS is awesome - sweet end game blizz. Years of practice really shows in DS.

Is your sole purpose on these forums is to demean TOR as much as you can? Do you remember HOW long it took Blizzard to get into Chinese territories for WoW? Do you remember when it was BANNED? Keep in mind, only 4 million out of the 10 million subs are from the United States in WoW.

China DOES IN FACT care about games. They ban most games that may seem slightly 'offensive'. I remember in SWTOR where I deliberately set a family on fire with a flame thrower. I am PRETTY sure that China deems that offensive. You don't have a single clue as to what you're talking about. The only thing they can do is block Chinese IPs. What else are they going to do? China banned WoW and yet you saw tons of Chinese players in-game farming or raiding on different servers. People will always find ways to get around things, its in our nature.

Also this thread has nothing to do with end game- it is talking about population 'issues'. But if you must compare, Dragon Soul is laughable. The longest time it took for a place to be cleared was back in the days of AQ. Blizzard has had tons of practice to perfect raids. Bioware has none. They said DURING the guild summit that they did not expect the content to be cleared so fast and will use EV and KP as a basis for the new raids in 1.2. Hardmode will be onpar if not harder than the current nightmare modes and nightmare modes in 1.2 will be "an actual nightmare" (real quote).

How about YOU get your facts straight before barging into random threads trying to bash a game you do not understand. I bet you played around on normal modes and then said "heh this stuff is easy!" I could log into WoW and go do LFR and then deem all content faceroll- oh wait it is. 6/7 bosses are freebies with one raid wall. No one kills it. Blizzard gives 5% buff every 2 or so weeks to buff the scrubs. Scrubs down content. Scrubs feel like they are awesome.

First off, please cite and give examples of western games banned from China that are non pornographic. Now, the Chinese version of WoW was temporarily shut down, access to servers in Korea/Taiwan/EU/US was never affected. Not one iota. In fact a large part of the Chinese WoW base moved to Taiwan WoW come WOTLK and the mainland government did nothing to stop it. Their only concern was the Chinese affiliate and their servers. The fact that there were players on whatever server you were on makes no difference. Pretty sure I know what I'm talking about, I live here.

Again, China isn't blocking SWTOR, Bioware is. The login server block is however easily bypassed.

Why are you even discussing WoW? I don't play that game. The last MMO I played was SWTOR, until a little while ago.

I enjoyed TOR up until the level cap and I found it fun until then. We were just finishing up the last hard modes when I decided it just wasn't for me. I take offense to the way you phrase your posts, I do in fact not even play WoW, but as I mentioned in the other thread I do find many aspects lacking. Personally I'm waiting for some sort of character migration before I resub.
Your assumptions make you look very foolish.

All in all every post I've seen from you has been a personal attack, and I'm surprised the mods here let it slide, I thought they had better standards.

The attempts at trolling and negative discussion end now. This is a moderator warning to keep the discussion on topic with positive criticism and suggestion for what you would do to correct the problem.

Get off your high horse. Dictating how positive the discussion should be is none of your business. If you wanna do that go apply to moderate the official forums, plenty of likeminded people there.

Since when are people forbidden to do "negative discussion" and obliged to provide "positive criticism" and try to find suggestions to correct problems? Do you even read what you're typing? Do you make any sense to yourself? The discussion was 100% civil. That's all you should care about as a moderator. The opinions expressed are not to be judged by you, oh mighty wannabe internet cop.

Now, infract me and feel good about yourself, since at least my post is breaking some rules as opposed to the ones above.

Don't discuss moderator actions in a thread please. If you have an issue with a moderator's actions send them a private message. ~Rag

I dunno, most of the time when we post warnings like the one Culadin posted it's just to prevent some people from taking their negative opinions too far. It's completely fine to have an opinion because that's what makes you, you. However, a lot of times discussions can turn around and our job as moderators is simply to keep everything civil. I'm not fully aware of this thread and I haven't gone through it all, but I can tell that it's not JUST negative opinions. It's negative, sarcastic, borderline trolling opinions and Culadin wants to keep the discussion going. He didn't close the thread so he clearly is just trying to keep order.

It'd be nice if you showed some compassion to the people taking time out of their day to help the site out. The same site that you're using this very second.

TL;DR Be kind, Don't jump to conclusions, Discuss, and Have fun.

Back on topic...more and more people are re rolling on tomb of freedom naad...and if your 1 of those people who is on the edge about re rolling or not...do it. Group quests are easier to do and extremely quick to group for. Wz's are active and quick with a mixture of all 3 coming up...and do what i did, join a guild with over 300members so there is always atleast 50+ people online which allows for you to have a joke/discuss the game etc while you level. And another thing, roll another class to what you already have, as that way you have a reason to play/follow the class storys and adds to more enjoyment. My advice anyway.

A couple dozen times at least...

At least the dreaded anal spam has not made its way over. People have however started the "Did somebody say [Thunderfury Blessed Blade of the Windseeker]"

After playing the past couple weeks I think the only way they can fix things is with server mergers. Allowing people to pick what server they want to move to will shut down the 4 or so high pop servers and will make them unplayable. Having selected server transfers ie [Server1, Server2, Server3] -> [Server4] wont work because those that dont move will be worse off than before.

I think they might be working out how to do the legacy system smoothly or else they wouldve done this already. Or perhaps waiting to see what 1.2 will do to the playerbase. Regardless something needs to be done and quickly...
