What is GW max level about?

This is what i sincerely wonder about.

    Its clear in WoW:
    -gear up
    -next tier/season gear up
    -next tier/season gear up

WoW is all about gear and new boss kills, or gear and new PVP seasons.

now from what im seeing GW2 is less focused on gear, especially in pvp. and dynamic events and world progress is a bit solo content that doesnt require a guild.
while i will enjoy WvWvW and leveling etc, what will be there to do as a guild progress. what will there be to grind if you have tons of time?
the only thing not working for me are 5mans in GW2, and im fearing that is the filler noone will enjoy long...

So, what will we do at 80, if not farming gear upgrades? or am i simply mistaken about the gear part?

Don't look at it like endgame. You'll do the same at lvl 80 as you'll do while levelling.
Also, Orr will have a complete lvl 80+ area with hard events that require you to be grouped up, so there should be enough open-world "raiding" for everyone.
    Monk, I need a monk!!!

You still grind for gear, but you're grinding for skins instead of stats.
And you're still trying to kill new bosses, they're just in 5mans instead of 10-25mans.
5mans don't have to be as easy as WoW 5mans, you can very easily make them as challenging as raids.
The only reason they're usually not is because there is something 'after' the 5mans usually, instead of 5mans being the top.

You do that thing that a lot of people forgot what games are about and have fun. You can still grind for gear, but it'll mostly be about cosmetic gear and making your character look good.

GW2s focus is more about getting better by improving your skills, and not by getting better gear.

There will elite dynamic events which you won't be able to solo, as well events with large dragons which will sort of be a server wide thing.

With the stats on gear never improving, it keeps all content relevant and challenging. If there was a gear climb in this game it would just ruin everything by making it way too easy.

You'll be able to grind for better looking gear (mind looking). As far as I know, that gear wont be more powerful than gear which is easy to get. But it looks better and is harder to obtain.

5 mans are not 5 mans like in WoW. 'Tough' in the first month or 2 after the game comes out (or expansion in WoW's case). You can do a 5 man 20 times and never have the same experience as all the dungeons have atleast 3 different paths you can take to get to the end. Also they have exploring mode in dungeons I believe it was called, which is a hardmode. I bolded hard because heroic was still easy in WoW in most cases.

Dynamic events and all the other stuff doesnt require a guild, but I can imagine it makes it alot more fun. I thank Anet for not making PvP a gear grind, but purely about skill.

Also I think you are completely missunderstanding the leveling part of GW2. There are levels, yes. There is a max level, yes. However, the game starts the moment you have created your character. At that very moment end game starts for you, not at level 80. It may be fun to reach level 80 for you, however you've been doing 'endgame' for 79 levels already.

Unlike almost every MMO this is not a 'endgame starts at max level' game.
    Draenor EU: Archavious - Level 120 Warlock ; Loaen - Level 120 Demon Hunter ; Arathia - Level 120 Paladin ; Mitosis - Level 110 Priest ; Toreck - Level 110 Hunter ; Aeralinde - Level 110 Mage ; Crikey - Level 110 Warrior

In all honesty, I always found obligatory gear farming to be totally boring, and GW2 seems to be concentrating on players like me (yay!). You can still farm gear, but this will be a cosmetic/prestige upgrade only. Still, you have tons of fun pvp, exploration and fun(!) dungeons to do. Why are people so obsessed by obligatory progression? Why not just actually have fun in the game?

P.S. This topic was already discussed hundreds of times on this forums, btw.

The same stuff that you did every other level. All of GW2 is "endgame".

Having fun. Playing because you want to, not because you have to. Same reason people play LoL, in a way.
Why am I back here, I don't even play these games anymore

The problem with the internet is parallel to its greatest achievement: it has given the little man an outlet where he can be heard. Most of the time however, the little man is a little man because he is not worth hearing.

Just as people have said, the endgame starts as soon as you have created your character

It also helps that you're scaled DOWN for quests which means you can happily complete every single quest in-game at the required level, meaning you won't just be facerolling them.

    Obtaining missed skill points
    Achievements
Finishing older zones (you are automatically scaled down to the level of the area you are in, so you can experience the content you missed at any level)
    World vs. World PvP
    Casual Conquest matches
Attempt to participate in tournament level Conquest matches
Reroll a new character and experience their personal story
Finish all dungeons in explorable mode
Do Activities in cities and towns. (30 of them, like bar brawls ect)

Found a good post on the subject:
Endgame or How to keep the addiction?

There is plenty of endgame in GW2, it just require a different mindset.

Explores will enjoy the scaling of lvl to the zone you are in, which means that you can't outlevel any content. so basicly no matter what road you have taken to lvl 80 , the hole frigging world is still there to enjoy.

Achivers will NOT progress in gear , but will still have to unlock/find every component availble to armor and weapons just to have them. Achivers can grind for ever to get all the titles the game offer. This is just as in GW1.

Socialisers can try all the story lines following friends. Properly Dive into unlocking all the guild features aswell

Killers can play PvP from lvl 1, endgame start there for them

    Everyone can roll an alt.

And everyone will play the expansions for endgame, Its an B2P game, expansions will come regular. Just as GW1 (until they aimed for GW2).

But no forced grind and no next dungeon carrot to make you stronger than the rest and force that to be measure of your progress in the game!

Basicly there is nothing to worry about when talking endgame , alot just have to unlearn an unhealthy addiction. (not everyone will be ready to do that)

Yup...as people have said...if ur really concerned the explorable 5 man dungeons are going to make 5 mans in other games look laughable. I wish they would call them something else tbh. Dungeons just has far too many negative connatations.
Totalbiscuit will showcase explorables soon. Keep tuned for a death fest to sate the masocistic desires of any hardcore instance grinder

that isnt what im concerned about. i DONT look for hard content, but 'upgrade my character' content.
im sure i will enjoy playing GW2 for a time, but what i will enjoy most until max level, will be the 'dings'...
i have around 500days /played in WoW, i did almost everything there is and ever was to do, grinded rank13, raided 40mans, listened to audiobooks while farming 200k gold from ore, maxed professions, played alts, fished for hours, hated myself for playing too much, gathered >100 mounts and pets, etc. etc.
i also did many achievements and ALL quests in game before AND after cataclysm.

but to do that, most important was guild chat and guild raids. i would quit wow if i didnt had the 40man raids in the first year, and while i did scholomance and ubrs hundred times, i never cared to get 'friends' in there. 5 mans are just anti social. never seen ppl willing to talk instead of finishing last boss fast.

so should i expect GW2 to just be great fun for 6months, or something that ill enjoy logging for years to talk with guildies while i check auction house or farm materials?

If you are someone who measures fun in the game by following a progression (aka WoW), then GW2 is not a game for you. Once you have unlocked all your weapons, skills and traits, you cannot improve your character by much. From what I have seen, the stats on the gear are only minor improvements and not as game-deciding as in WoW. You can "upgrade" the looks by collecting new gear and you can improve your performance by sharping your skills as a player. But: you don't have to do certain dungeons etc. just to stay on par with other players.

GW2 will offer enough achievements, collectibles (all that cool-looking gear you get through PvP and PvE, minipets, etc.), casual activities (city minigames), engaging pvp and similar stuff. Its up to you if you find it fun enough to keep playing the game for a long time.

Maybe I will try rephrase question then as all answers seems to missing somethign to me.

In WoW for example there is more or less goal for each exapnsion, final clash between you and major threat. So for me Cataclysm was in long run (goal wise) about preparing to face Deathwing and end that threat to world. Wotlk was about stoping Lich King etc etc Gear is only tool for that goal for me, not goal in itself.
So in short, Im that hero who start weak and improving to face ultimate enemy. (BTW Im not saying WoW did it good, but thats distract me from getting bored with grinding for gear etc, minus is that when you defeat your enemy, there is no enemy to deafeat anymore, and you can only repeat it)

Will there be something like that in GW2? Some major evil/enemy we are going to face and defeat?
Or is that game more about just living in world, where you face "everyday" goals, but there is no that point that you can say - ok this is final enemy, when he is defeated I can rest, and spend time in tavern telling stories.

And before you say - "just have fun" . Well thats kinda mine fun in game, living/roleplaying character in some set story, going for some main goal w/e it would be, and best if game provide that. Im not rly enjoy in long term "you can do everything, but you need set goals for yourself" if you got what I mean.

Endgame for me has always been about the challenge of defeating new boss mechanics and advancing as a group, gear was just a tool for the job. When I look at GW2 I see that same content that I enjoy all the way from level 10 to 80 in the form of DE's, some of them are simply 'raid bosses' who happen to be located in the open world. Couldn't really ask for more personally.

Again, don't jump to conclusions upon hearing the word "Dungeon". It's not your standard WoW, easy, farmable dungeons. Plus, the guild work will really shine in Elite Events and World Bosses. If the Elite Meta Events are anywhere close to GW1 HM Missions, they'll prove to be real challenges for everyone involved ! Finally, Guilds = WvW !

Being a person that loves character progression the most in RPGs I think I won't try GW2 at all.
by character progression I mean making my character stronger and able to do new things, either by increasing levels, learning new abilities and perks, increasing skills or getting better equipment.

With levels being meaningless in GW, no gear farming / improvement, no skills to hone it's as good as an arcade game to me.
I have enough of EA ruining great franchises and studios, forcing DRM and Origin on their games, releasing incomplete games only to sell day-1 DLCs or spill dozens of DLCs, and then saying it, and microtransactions, is what players want, stopping players from giving EA games poor reviews, as well as deflecting complaints with cheap PR tricks.

I'm not going to buy any game by EA as long as they continue those practices.

Well yes there's an overarching story of course. Don't forget that a big aspect of the game is your personal storyline that involve decision making on your part. Your storyline is naturally inscribed in a much larger story. You can read on the lore of the game and the context of GW2 within the vast history of Tyria by visiting the official wiki.

Umm, skills and elites you have to actually unlock. The only thing you got right is the gear. You don't just get all abilities while leveling, you have to go and unlock them.
