TF2(Team Fortress 2). Best F2P FPS shooter online, IMO.

2 new ones out in the last month, Tribes ascend and Blacklight Retribution dont know if the are any good though...but as stated already Team Fortress 2 is probably going to be your best bet.

There are no "Free-to-play" FPS games that are actually good, imo. But I'm sure you could afford the one-time charge for a great game if you can pay for a decent computer, internet and such
I recommend Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike: Source, Battlefield 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2/3 and Mass Effect 3.

I agree with Tribes Ascend and disagree with TF2. The amount of completely ridiculous items in TF2 got out of hand a long, long time ago. Not a fan of the graphics style, either, but opinions and asses, etc.

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and say TF2, a good solid non-cartoony F2P FPS is Blacklight: Retribution.
